Hi All,

The rest of my family will be spending the day at the Magic Kingdom while I head over to Disney Springs for the podcast on Monday the 25th and I am struggling to figure out how best to get there without allowing myself so much extra time

Leaning towards walking over to the Contemporary and seeing what the bus situation is and/or take a cab from there if not looking promising.

Also, thinking of Ubering it, but confused about the best way to get picked up by Uber when at the Magic Kingdom

I could also potentially drive but feels like going back to parking lot to get the car and then drive over and park at Disney Springs, etc. could take a while and would leave my family without a car if they need to get back to the resort (we are staying off site).

Any thoughts on best way to travel mid-day from MK to Disney Springs?

I would take the bus from one of the MK resorts to Disney Springs. I wouldn't expect a lot of people busing mid day to Disney springs.

As for an uber I'm guessing you'd have to go to the contemporary for them to pick you up.

I am leaving my family at Universal for the day while I go to the podcast. I'll be taking an uber. I've used uber many times and it's so much faster than a bus.

I was wondering how often the buses would run mid-day though ... does the Contemporary have one of those electronic signs indicating when the next busses for each location is? If so my plan was to check that and if one was coming soon then great, if not, take a taxi

My first thought was definitely to do Uber but then it seemed confusing as to where they can pick up at MK and in the transportation board someone said not to bother with Uber and get a taxi at the Contemporary because of this aspect ...

... if I could request a car to pick me up at the Contemporary though while walking there that could work thought - just wasn't clear if that is possible

You could uber from the Contemporary.

Yes the contemporary does have one of the electronic signs.

I believe they lifted the ban on uber drivers coming up into the porte cochere to do pick ups.
In the past, they weren't allowed in past the security gate but now they can.
So I assume you can get one from the contemporary pretty easily.

I plan to use uber a few times on our trips, to get to the water parks and mini golf. It's too much of a hassle to go via DS.

I would do one of the following:
  • Walk to contemporary and get their bus or call an uber. (bus isn't bad now that it comes into the middle, uber drops you off directly next to the cirque theater).
  • monorail or resort boat to any resort and get their bus (skip FT wilderness, you need to get a bus to to the front of that campground to get to the DS bus).
  • ferry or monorail to TTC and get an uber/taxi from there..
  • bus to wilderness lodge (closest to MK) and get their DS bus
  • bus to saratoga springs (closest to DS) and switch buses (longest bus transfer, it's not a small resort).. don't walk unless you also want the time to get to the opposite side of DS or the time to boat to the west side.

Other interesting ways for a change/something new/check out a new resort on the way:
  • bus to POFQ, walk through the resort to the boat and boat over (east side dock so you still need to get to west side). (short walk, it's very small, just go straight to the back behind the pool). great way to see the treehouse villas if you have never seen them, nice boat ride, can be crowded so extra time needed.
  • bus to old key west and take their boat to DS. (I think this is a west side dock so you go direct, but a different boat route vs pofq),. never did this but check the maps to make sure it's reasonable between bus and boat.

Confirmed ways to get uber from mk:

- get to any resort (contemporary might be quickest if walking but there is 2 others on the monorail) and lots of buses anywhere you want to go except DS
- TTC (not all that short, wait for ferry/monorail, get to ttc, walk tothe taxi stand, walk past the taxi stand..).. the walk at ttc from ferry is about the length of the walk to contemporary without the wait and ride over to ttc.

Thanks Bryan! I think I will walk tot eh contemporary and see waht the bus sign said and then either do a taxi or uber it (I'll check the uber app on the walk over)

I like the idea of the bus to POFQ and then the boat, just worried it might take a while on the boat, but seems like a nice ride

The ride is very pretty (so is the resort itself and the walk to the boat dock), and relaxing - but - like you said - if yo're pressed for time, or have to wait for the next boat, or whatever, you may not even enjoy the view, if you're looking @ your watch. :)

Any way you do it I would budget at least 30 minutes to a half hour for travel time, probably more.

My site to site plans are often convoluted, to the point I would take monorail to TTC, monorail to EPCOT, then walk ti the international gateway. just to get to the BWV. For DS I would probably give in and just take a bus from the Contemporary

I would plan more like 60-90 minutes from the time you walk under the train tracks at MK. I'm expecting a lot of people to be on buses to disney springs to get there in time for the podcast and the short list of hotels had the contemporary on it.. as well as GF. I don't think Wilderness lodge was one of them and that's a very quick bus ride and single bus stop and it's one of the first bus stops in MK near the hollywood studios bus (around bus stop number 3 or 4).. you can probably get to WL just as fast as walking to contemporary where you might find a long line of disers waiting for springs..

unfortunately I have zero experience in what buses look like when there is hundreds of disney experts trying to get from MK to springs for a podcast :) Expect every expert to be clogging up every bus and boat between a park and DS that day....

I have seen people get from resorts to espn for cheerleader and stuff and getting an uber during that is near impossible.

@WebmasterJohn has anyone thought of asking disney if they could run park to DS buses for the hour before the podcast starts? you know, so we can spend money in their parks longer (wink, whatever they need to hear to do it)

Honestly, I wouldn't bother with a bus.
For the sake of a $10 uber, I'd go with that. It all sounds too confusing and time consuming to me

I am have the same exact dilemma...literally. We will be in MK that morning and our last FP is at 11am. That's when DH and I will leave the kids with my parents to trek to DS. I've never had good bus service to DTD from the resorts, so I'm torn between driving and cabbing.

Thanks for all the thoughts everyone

Slight update, my wife indicated they may just take their mid-day break then and just drop me off which should work fine (still bro ably give an hour to get there)

If not I'll go to Contemporary and bus or taxi or uber

That's exactly my timing Tigger - last FP is at 11

Maybe we could travel together

Definite possibility. Technically an 11:05 FP, but since you can arrive at 11am...well, it's 11am in my eyes. That particular FP is BTMRR for us, so we'll be trekking from Frontierland to the front of MK, but I can keep you posted on our transportation plans in case we drive or cab it.
