Best way to get an upgrade???

Does anyone know a good way to get a free upgrade? I've heard of people getting them and just wondering what the deal/circumstances were? TIA!

I've been upgraded at AKL without asking, but I don't see why you can't just say," Is there any chance for complementary upgrade today"? All they can say is no.... I loved the upgrade we got at AKL, but I would have been happy with the standard room that I paid for and expected.

I think it depends on their availability. Two years ago we booked a studio at OKW and upon arrival, without asking, they upgraded us to a 2 bedroom villa. Last year we booked a 1 bedroom villa and upon arrival asked for an upgrade and they said they didn't have any. So, I don't think there's a magic answer - it's just luck!

We got an upgrade at AKL just for asking "How much would it cost for an upgrade?" That way, you at least look like you are attempting to meet the CM half-way. I just felt a bit odd saying "Hey! You got any free upgrades???" That's just me.
I'm hoping for an upgrade to a tower room at CR next month. We are pulling out all the stops. Checking in with our bride and groom mouse ears on, toting something from Disney Weddings (anything), doing what we can!
