Best way to check out of Disney, spend day at MK, and check in at Universal?

When you check out of your resort, can you have them hold your luggage for you until you can come pick it up? How does that work?

Here’s my dilemma…
I plan to spend a few days on Disney property and then switch over to Universal. I will be checking out of my Disney resort (probably Pop Century) early on Wednesday morning. I plan to spend that entire day at the Magic Kingdom. I’m thinking the MK hours will be 9am – 7pm the day I will be there, and I want to get at the gate 30 minutes before they open at the very latest. Preferably 45-60 min. I’ve considered the possibility of hopping over to Epcot for a couple hours after MK closes, which would have me in the parks until at least 9pm, but I’m not sure yet if I’ll do that. I’ll have my own car since I’m driving down but, from what I’ve heard, it’s easier to take bus transportation to the MK than to drive there. Also, I really don’t want to load my luggage in my car and leave it sit in a parking lot (either at the resort if I take the bus to MK or at the park if I drive to MK) all day long. I’m concerned with the possibility of theft.

I’m not really sure what the best and easiest way to do this would be. If the Disney resorts hold luggage for you on the day you check out, will they be willing to hold it for the entire day like that? Is there any kind of charge? Would I be better off getting up really early, checking out of Disney, driving to Universal, having them hold my luggage or putting it in my room, then driving back to MK myself? How long would that likely take?

Are there other options I’m not thinking of? Am I making this too complicated?

Thanks!

We have left car in the resort lot many times after we loaded the luggage never had a problem. Usually go so far as to load van night before we leave except for what we need for next morning and day. Few times van has sat on lot loaded and ready to go for almost 24 hours.

Theif would be very disappointed if he stole my luggage not much there but my dirty laundry a few rolls of film and a moderately priced camera.

Just leave your luggage at your disney resort. The bellman will put it in storage for you and give you a claim check. We do this all the time and have left it there all day without charge. Just stayed at the BCV last week, checked out sunday morning and left luggage at the hotel until our 7:30 p.m. flight home.

I agree with Absame. We do the same, but in reverse. We stay at the HRH first, then move over to WDW. We just have the bellman
pick-up and hold are luggage. When were done at the parks, we go back to HRH get our luggage.

Thanks so much for the respones! It sounds like leaving my luggage in storage should make things relatively easy.

If I left my luggage in my car, I think I'd be worrying about it all day. It might not have anything especially valuable in it, but a potential thief isn't going to take the time to check for valuables before they steal it and it would be a huge inconvenience to have all my luggage stolen.

We just did that three weeks ago. We checked out in the morning and put our bags in the car. We went to MK then back to the hotel to get the car then had lunch at DTD and stopped at DQ for a couple of hours. We then headed to US and arrived about 5:00 p.m. You could do the same as your parking pass at the WDW hotel is good for the day of your departure.
