Best way to change dates on a room reservation? Call or cancel?

Which is the best way to change our dates on a room only reservation? Should I call or just cancel it myself online and make a new reservation? I don’t want everything getting messed up in the system.

If you already have FP+ reservations made then I would book your new reservation online and then once it shows on MDE cancel the original. If you haven't made FP+ reservations then the order makes no difference.

Do you see the option to modify your dates online? If so, I would just do that.
You can't modify dates online. You can modify the resort, the room type, or a discount, but not the date.

Call if you don't want to make another deposit. If you don't mind making another deposit and waiting about a week for a refund on the old one, make a new one online, then cancel the old one. The system will let you hold two overlapping reservations temporarily. Your fastpasses and dining reservations will stay intact.

I've modified dates online many times.
 
Same, I can modify everything except dates. I have done it both ways, cancelled and rebooked online, but also called in. Yesterday, I wanted to extend by a day. I decided to call in and set my limit on a wait of 5 minutes. If longer than that, I was going to rebook/cancel online. The CM answered immediately so I went that route :)

Sure you can. I did it yesterday to my May stay at GDT, added on 2 nights.
Not to 100% of reservations 100% of the time but it is possible.
BB is one that is never possible to change online, other than that, it's hit and miss. Sometimes by the hour. In yet another item on the long list of glitches sometimes I have seen it say call, and when I refresh it comes back with the link to change myself, all within a few minutes of each other.
 
Got it changed online! Easier than going through all the questions they ask when you call lol.
Exactly why I hate to call 99% of the time.
I'll opt to cancel and rebook just to avoid the phone call. Yes, that means waiting on a refund but I'll do that over wading through their phone system. I hate it that much.
