Best Way to Carry CamCorder and Cameras

Ok, this might be my ultimate in stupid questions, but..........

What do you all do with your cameras and camcorders when in the parks when you want to ride a ride, etc.?

There are just us 2 adults and our 4 year old, what if we all want to ride a ride at the same time or is that impossible??

On our next trip this coming week my husband will be in charge of the camcorder and we have a nice leather bag that is just the size of the camcorder. He wears it over his head/shoulder on rides. I am in charge of the camera this trip and am bringing a purse with a long enough strap to carry it over my shoulder.

In the past we have brought a camera bag that was large enough for both cameras and zippers for odds and ends.

We aren't planning on going on kali rapids so thats not a problem but probably splash mountain - it won't hurt it in the bags they are in.

We bought the Disney camera case and my digital camcorder and EOS 35mm fit inside. It is nottoo big at all to take on the small rides. Roller coasters may be a problem. To ride the big rides where you may lose it, do the rider switch and let the other adult stay with it.

We brought a broke in backpack. We kept our camcorder, dig camera, bottled water and fresh socks/meds. It wasnt a problem on the rides, held everything in one spot, and were able to keep our small souvies on us, rather then shipping back to the hotel. We took turns on carrying btwn the two of us. **word of advise if you use a backpack, make sure it has minimal pockets. Disney does a safety inspection when entering the parks, and the more pockets, the longer it takes to inspect and you hold up the line for other DISers.**

I have puchased a slightly larger sized lumbar pack (fanny pack) that will hold both my digital video camera and digital still camera. Both are relatively small and fit nicely in the bag with room for extra batteries, tapes, memory cards, ID, tickets, cell phone, inhaler, etc. Plus, this bag, with everything inside, fits into a large ziplock bag so when we ride Kali River Rapids and Splash Mountain it will be water proof.

I have read the many post on these boards claiming the fanny packs make people look "dorky" or "geeky", but I'm not bothered by that in the slightlest. I'm not trying to win any fashion contests at the World, I'm trying to have FUN!! :jumping1:

I tucked the digital camcorder into my purse - it was the perfect size to sit at the bottom of the purse when it wasn't in use. Probably not the most padded way, but I didn't go banging the purse around either. The digital camera went into my sister's jacket's pocket for easy access.

My DH bought us a pretty nifty backpack at Academy last week. It is by Wegner (I think - same company as Swiss Army), and is waterproof. It has two big interior compartments, and our normal camera bag for the digital camera fits perfectly inside, with plenty of leftover room for our various sundries. The backpack really isn't that big, and the best part - even though it's waterproof, it has it's very own "poncho" that is attached through a zipper in the bottom that will cover the entire pack when on someone's shoulders! Florida rain storms, here we come! I think it was about $45.

We've always taken a similar sized backpack to the parks with us, and always taken it on all the rides. On thrill rides like ToT or RnRC, one of us just puts our feet through the straps and puts the bag up under our legs. Never had a problem.

This is one of my concerns also. I am considering just forgetting about the camcorder and just bringing our camera (it can take short movies with sound). I can't decide! I just hate the thought of carrying a bunch of stuff!!!

Backpack and carry both. No problems

Since you have kids, I would suggest taking the camcorder. I wouldn't leave mine at home for anything. The short mpegs that most digital cameras take just aren't enough. I much prefer to see longer segments on DS5 actions and interactions!!

Thanks for the advice. Actually after reading another thread on this topic, I have changed my mind (AGAIN) and will definitely be taking the camcorder, even if only to record our character meals and such princess:

I'm glad you're bringing your camcorder. We could never leave home without it even though our kids are now 18 and 24 and still want to come with us....where else but Disney!
~I don't know about everyone else...but the first thing our family ALWAYS does when they get back from a vacation is to sit down at the tv and watch it all over again.....I am very thankful that my husband has the patience to tape every little thing...it makes it so memorable~
Our film starts rolling tomorrow!!!!!!

Just purchased one of these Lowepro Orion Trekker II backpacks for our trip to WDW this year. Has a separately accessed padded section in the bottom of the backpack for camcorder and camera, plus a "daypack" top section for all your daily essentials (water, snacks, etc). It's water resistant, lightweight and very comfortable to wear. Doesn't look geeky either ;) Thoroughly recommeded :sunny:

I've been able to use the backpack for my cameras - which then would go between my legs on a ride, using the strap to keep secure. I'm glad to read this thread - as I was trying to figure out how many cameras and/or camcorder to take; it's only my DH and myself. But it is during the Flower Power time - and who can not take lots of pictures then? I just bought another memory card - in case I can't find the CD makers in a park.
I just was able to create a DVD from an old home video on the computer - I'm now more secure with this DVD/movie idea.

We always use a backpack to carry both our digital and our video camera. We usually go when the weather can be a little chillier so we pack a sweatshirt in the bag to help cushion the cameras. We have never had any problems and DH takes it on RNRC, TOT, etc.. and the cameras have always been fine.

This is our first trip and we have bought a Sony Camcorder/Camera Backback that I am excited about using. It's not too big but plenty of room for cameras, batteries, camcorder, extra tapes, etc. plus a few other necessities...Very well padded to protect the equipment. My husband also got a larger padded backpack that would fit a laptop computer but he plans to use it for the camera equipment knowing that we'll have plenty of other things to put in there as well (rain ponchos, anything that 2 & 5 yr old DDs will need) so we will switch off with those backpacks depending on if we are staying all day in a park, or just going to dinner and short visit....

Thank you all so much for your answers. I got a larger backpack and a smaller one (in case I wanted to carry a lot less on certain days). I don't care if I look like a dork or not! It's all in the comfort for me :)

Thanks again.....6 more days!!!

I bought an otterbox at a dive shop. It fits my canon digital elph perfect. It has a strap that goes around your neck and the best part is that it's waterproof. I highly recommend getting one if you have a digital camera you don't want to get any water on.

My ex taught me this trick, and it has turned out to be one of the best pieces of advice I've ever gotten. I'm in the parks constantly, and while I still prefer to "go commando" it's not always realistic. So this trick was a godsend to me, the one good thing I got out of that relationship LOL.
