Best way to buy APs for others?

Our oldest son and his girlfriend are able to join us for a few days at the end of our upcoming WDW trip next trip. Since we are building a house near WDW we decided it makes more sense for us to purchase APs for them since they will probably go a few more times over the next year when they come to visit us.

What is the best way for us to purchase their APs? Right now they are both listed as friends/family on my MDE account, they don't have their own MDE accounts yet) and I am doing all of the planning. If I purchase the APs on line and then have them activate them when they arrive is there a way for them to transfer their APs to their own accounts when they create them in the future? Basically we need a way for me to able to do all the planning now but then have them be able to do it in the future.

you can purchase the APs and assign the APs to them online. They will need to activate them when they first visit the parks.

If they don't have accounts why don't they set them up now, before you buy the APs?

I don't know. All my friends and family have their own accounts. Why wouldn't they go ahead and set up accounts first? they probably would need to use the same names that you used for them on your account.

If they create their own account right now you will still be able to do all the planning.

Yes, they will be able to add the AP's to their own account if they create their own after you buy the AP for them.

I don't know if there a way for the system to recognize them on both my MDE account as well as one they create. We purchased a hotel room for them on my MDE account under their names and I need to make their FPs for them this trip. MDE will need some other way to recognize that the people listed on my account are the same as the two people who create their new account besides just their names (otherwise everyone named John Smith would have a terrible time with their account- LOL!).

There is. I'm going later this month with two friends, All three of us have separate accounts. One friend made the hotel reservation and included the other two. I made the FP's and included the other two. And the third one made two dining reservations and added the others. Have them give it a try. Can't hurt...

But if you don't want to do that, then it's okay to wait. Once they have their own accounts they can include you in their plans and you can include them your plans. And they can put in the AP numbers at any time.

For clarity sake, assume they are completely managed by you; they
show up on your account, are listed on a reservation, have tickets (AP) showing and FP are made for everyone.

If they then decide to create their own MDE account, it's no problem. There is a process for doing that.

They create the account and one of you requests that the other become "friends and family". This is done via the MDE app. Say, you request they join your f+f list, they will receive an email (you've supplied this, and it has to match the one they used for their account) and they accept the request. There are options to select to allow/disallow sharing of various components like photos and reservations. Share everything initially. You can change it later if you want.
The system will then ask you if the new f+f names are the same people as folks in your account that you currently manage. If so, you'll be asked to match the individuals on each account. This may happen automatically if the names are identical. Once the names are paired all the data will be moved from your MDE account to theirs. You'll still see them and all the reservations and you can still make reservations for everyone, as will they (sharing). But they will now own their own account.

Note: it is best if the names they use when setting up their account are identical to the ones you have used on yours. That way the system will see a perfect match and hopefully avoid some confusion.

Sorry if this sounds way more complicated that it is. It's just a multi step process.
