Best way to book this complicated ressie?

I'm looking for some advice from my fellow Disers. We are trying to combine points from 2 different members for a OKW GV next August and, not being up to date on all the transfer rules, I am a bit confused how to do this.

Here's the situation -

An OKW GV for the time we want is 428 points. Here is the breakdown of what we have available from the two contracts

Contract 1 - February Use Year

2013 Points 2014 Points 2015 Points
3 pts. 111 pts. 111 pts.

Contract 2 - August Use Year

2013 Points 2014 Points 2015 Points
0 pts. 140 pts. 150 pts

I welcome any ideas how to make this happen. Two different ressies? Can we link them? Do we transfer points and do one ressie? I don't think we can transfer banked or borrowed points, is that correct?

TIA for your help.

You are correct that you cannot transfer banked or borrowed points. You can however bank transferred points, but you cannot borrow transferred points.

In your case you probably should just make 2 separate reservations and have them linked.

I would call MS with both owners and ask them. What we say and what they will do can be different. Often the MS Advisor's have different opinions of policy.

If necessary ask for a Team Lead Advisor.

Thanks for the advice Bill. I will definitely call MS.

One question - if we link ressies will that mean we won't have to move? Not looking forward to having to pack up 10 people in the middle of vacation!

You shouldn't have to move, GV's are in short supply and moving doesn't make sense.

Call with both owners now before the room is gone.

Usual course for what you are planning is for each to reserve a portion of the vacation time, list both family occupants on both reservations, and then link the reservations. Linking prevents having to move, although you may have to do a mini check out and then check in procedure on the turnover day, closing out one account and opening the other, and getting new keys and parking passes. An alternative is a transfer of points so one owner can make the entire reservation but you cannot do that because you cannot transfer enough points to make the reservation. You cannot transfer already banked or borrowed points. Also, transferred points cannot be borrowed after being transferred and thus you cannot transfer 2015 points and use them for the trip.

As to chances of getting a GV at OKW 7 months out for Aug, they are good (GVs other than at the Hospitality House area were available 7 months out this year and last for all of Aug). Note, I would make the reservations separately and then link. If, for example, one owner reserves the first four nights of a week stay at exactly 7 nights out, the other owner cannot reserve the other three nights until he is 7 months out from the beginning of those three nights. Thus, if you want to avoid any risk of a GV disappearing once the 7 month window opens by reserving exactly 7 months out, you must do the reservations separately and then link.

Also note that those three Feb 2013 points need to be banked now because your banking deadline ends Sep 30.
