Best Way and Timing to Sell Wii

So, my DS got an Xbox for Christmas last year and has decided that he really doesn't ever play his Wii anymore so he'd like to sell it. What is the best way to do this? Craigslist? Gamestop? Or should I look around to see if we can donate it somewhere?

I'd use Gamestop as a last resort - they low ball buy backs pretty hard.

I'd try Craigs List first.

I tried to sell a Wii last year and I swear I'd have a better chance trying to sell Justin Beiber tickets at a Metallica concert!!

I had the Wii, 2-3 games and 3 controllers all in pristine adult owned condition .... NO BODY wanted it, I finally ended up selling it on Craigslist for like $50 I think.

I definitely wouldn't take it to GameStop, I think they are offering like $20 trade in value for them! You could try craigslist but I bet you'll be hardpressed to sell it ... maybe your son will get a "feel good" vibe if you find a local boys/girls club or something like that to donate it too?

Once you get closer to Christmas you may have better luck on Craigslist. But you can buy a refurbished Wii at Gamestop for $70-80 and that comes with a guarantee. I would not expect to get much for it on CL.

I say eBay -- for those who've never used Craigslist, you never really know what you're getting-into, over there...

As for GameStop, you definitely won't come out ahead, with them -- as of last week, GS stores in the St. Louis area was offering $30 to buy a complete Wii system (just a few minutes ago from the date/time stamp on this post, that same used Wii system is selling for about $60 on eBay).

I know Budget Boarders dislike eBay's fee structure, but given the fact that you're nearly doubling your $$ vs. GameStop and you don't have to jump-through hoops and deal with unknowns as you often do with a Craigslist ad, the easy money is on eBay...

Ebay is a lot of hassle, unless you have quite a few games to sell to push up the value of your package. Even if you can make $30 extra on ebay, by the time you pay the ebay and paypal fees, a large part of that is eaten up and you have to go to the hassle of boxing it up and shipping it.

It has mostly gotten to the point where I won't sell anything on ebay unless it is going to sell for a minimum of $100.

Gamestop has double trade in value for systems listed under their current trade offers, expires 8/18. So I would probably go that route.

The double trade in on systems isn't half bad for the current market. I would hold off on the extras like controllers and games because starting the 19th there is an additional trade in credit. I think it's 50% versus the current 40% being offered.

Wii's have become so outdated and old, don't expect much from it.

Unfortunately no one seems to want a Wii anymore. If you think your DS will ever possibly play the Wii again...EVER...you're better off keeping it. It will be tough to sell it even on Craigslist, especially if you don't happen to have the newer version with WiiPlus, etc. I'd personally keep it in case lots of his friends come over or whatever, but if you're adamant about selling it I would probably list it on Craigslist to see if you get any bites, and if not, sell it at Gamestop or consider donating it to a Boys & Girls Club, church, shelter, etc.

I have done pretty good just posting things on my FB. I have a pretty large friend list and friends know other people and so on. With the new wiiU and more and more systems coming out, I really would not expect to get too much for it. We do still use and enjoy ours. I would hang on to it. If you have visitors with younger kids, it would be great to entertain them. Otherwise, donate and write it off on your taxes.

Like the previous poster, I also sell on Facebook. I'm in several local garage sale groups and do quite well selling things we no longer want. You might see if there are any in your area.

With the release of the WiiU, Wii values plummeted. Best chance to recoup money is likely:

Craigslist
Ebay
GameStop
