Best transportation from Orlando/Sanford Airport to WDW

What's the most cost efficient way to get from the airport to WDW with 5 people?

Rent a car.

Your other options are town car or cab, which will each run about $200 round trip. There are shuttles, but the service isn't as good and they will cost at least as much as, if not more than, the other options.

Rental car, but watch the times of the companies. I was checking for a rental car through National and it came back and told me they closed at 10:00PM. I'm not sure if other companies do, or if you can prepay and pick up your car while it's closed.

No you can not prepay and pick up a car when they are closed. The rental car company must see your drivers license before they will rent to you. They will allow you to drop the car off after they close.

They will usually (frequently/sometimes) stay open longer to accommodate customers with a reservation on a delayed flight. The last flight of the day is scheduled to land in Sanford at 7:55p. A 10p closing gives customers 2 hours to get their luggage and walk over to the rental counter.

Actually that is incorrect. The reason I haven't flown out of our local airport Hagerstown, MD (only 45 minutes away) is because the Allegiant Air flight lands at Sanford at 10:05PM. Allegiant only departs Hagerstown, MD on Mondays and Fridays at the same time both days, only 1 flight. It returns on the same days. Cheap fares, but alot of add on expenses. We have been tempted to give them a try, esp. since parking at this little airport is free.

We generally rent from National (Exec. Members) and when I checked recently to rent a car at 10:30PM, it came back and said they closed at 10:00PM. I never looked at other rental companies, so they may be open later, but not sure.

Flew Allegiant to a reunion last year. While they don't have all the fancy stuff that big airlines do, was ok.
Probably flying them into Sanford in Dec, because it will save $$$. Catching shuttle there - but it'll be just me traveling.
