Best time to ride Safari?

I'm interested in hearing opinions on the best time to visit the Safari ride at AK, in terms of being able to see the most animal activity.

Am I better off joining the throngs headed there at park-opening?

Or will more animals be out later in the day?

We really wanted to ride the Safary first thing in the morning. But we're late sleepers, and as much as we've tried, we've never managed to be at any park for opening. :( So again, we rode the Safari early afternoon, and again, we hardly saw any animals. :(

We decided to ride the last Safari of the day. What a difference! We saw Giraffes, hippos, lots of animals really up close!

We even thought a Rhino was going to ram into our vehicle...it was really exciting!

So, for us, riding the Safari just before closing was a great decision. :)

Have a great trip, and I hope you get to see lots of animals!

I usually go in the morning -- first thing. From what I understand, the animals have just been fed and you want to catch them before they take their naps.

However, I have gone a little later than that and still saw plenty of animals. :thumbsup2

I have gone for the first in the am and last in the pm, both were great and we saw lots of animals. We had an ostrich come out of some brush and charge our vehicle, like it could take it over it was really funny. We also had a herd of giraffes stop on the path and stare at the vehicle for over 5 minutes.

I have been told by AK cast members that it depends on the weather. If it is really hot the animals seek shade and take naps in the afternoon, so at that time of year first thing in the morning is best. I have also been told that in the summer you see a lot of animals when it rains. They enjoy getting wet and playing in the water. I am going to try taking the last one this time. I never thought of that, but the animals are expecting the trainers to come out soon and know they will get taken in a fed then, so I can see that they would be up and alert. That is a great idea.

the first few times we rode we went in the afternoon and we barely saw any animals. went went early in the morning last time and we saw a LOT of animals out. i recommend going early.

I've always heard the earlier the better. If you stay at AKL, I think that they have a special (for people staying at the resort only) safari that begins before the park even opens! Now that sounds good to me!!!

Now why does the official guide recommend seeing them around noon?? They say it,s less crowded and the animals are out all day long!!!

I'm staying at the AKL and will be going on the safari before the park opens!  It's for concierge guests, and afterwards they give you breakfast. I'm so excited to go! :teeth:

I would think the animals try to avoid the hottest part of the day, so they're up and about early in the morning and later in the evening when it's a little cooler. Usually during the late morning/early afternoon they're in the shade or sleeping.

Okay, then along similar lines...which to do first thing - EE or safari? We love doing the early safari, so right now we are thinkig we will nap fastpass for EE and then get on Safari. How does everyone else handle this now with EE?

Personally, the last couple times I've gone directly to EE upon opening and got fastpasses, then headed over to Safari. It worked great, and when we were done with Safari it was just about time for EE. Saw plenty of animals that early in the morning.

actualy the animals especialy the large ones are most active in the rain. They apparently love it.

We enjoy going first thing in the morning if it is during the summer. When it is cooler outside, any time that we go seems to have active animals. Alot of the animals do seem to have fun in the rain and some absolutely hate it.
