Hi- I'm trying to plan a Disney trip in 2009. My husband is an administrator and isn't able to take off a whole week (maybe a couple of days and a weekend) during the school year. When would be the best time to plan a Disney trip working with a school calendar? I read that Christmas is the worst time to visit. What would be some other options?

We have gone twice during Thanksgiving...arriving the Saturday before and leaving on the Saturday after. We really love this time of year and while the parks are busy, they are manageable. We had no problem doing everything that we wanted to do. The weather was beautiful and it was a great way to spend the holidays. Besides all the Christmas decorations are up at that point in time, so we were able to see the lights and all the special things going on.
After we went the first time, I was talking with my kid's principal and was telling him how great it was. He ended up taking his family for the following Thanksgiving. He only had to take three days off and because there really wasn't much going on at the school because of the holidays...he had no problem taking the time off. That might be a good solution for you also...:goodvibes

You didn't mention what time of the year you would like to go to Disney, so I am not sure if you are looking to go in the fall, winter, etc. but maybe this will help you if you are looking on going during Christmas time.

We went the week before Christmas due to school schedules. It's not bad, but as it gets closer to Christmas, the park gets more crowded by the day. I would probably say the earlier you go in December, the better.

It sounds like you can go anytime while school is in session, which gives you the ability to go during the quiet times of the year. I don't exactly know when those times are, but I am sure someone can help you out.

spring break & summer can be really crowded, but with a good touring plan that can be dealt with. The best time keeping with the school calendar would be the two week break in October. Thats a wonderful time for a trip anywhere. We've enjoyed it several times. We are both teachers.

We don't get a 2-week break here.... we always go in early June and have always had a great time! My dh is an athletic director/head football coach so early summer is really his only time off. We've been to DL after Christmas and that was fun, too - not at all crowded surprisingly!
