Best time to buy airfare to HNL from PDX and a question..

We are going to Aulani the end of August and currently the best priced airfare seems to be about $584pp for our dates. We went to Maui last summer and the price was about 100-140 less per/person. We purchased our tickets in May for that Maui trip and just wondering if we should wait another month or so to see if the price to HNL drops.

Also I see a descent rate one way from Pdx to HNL on Alaska ...would there be much of a down side to purchasing it now and then booking a one way for the trip home on another airline? Alaskan does not to seem to have non stop for the return home and with a 3 year old it's kind of important to us

I see you have 4 people. Make sure you sign up for 2 Alaska Airline Visa cards. You will get at least 25,000 miles at sign up from each card. The best feature of the card is the companion fare discount. You get one per year and it allows you to book one ticket to Hawaii for $120 for each regular ticket you buy. You can lower your average cost per person down to $300 RT. A great deal.

Is there a free introductory year? I know other cards that have similar benefits give you the first year for free, then you pay for the second and future years. You don't get the companion tickets until you pay the fee.
