Best Time of Day to Drive To San Diego?

We're staying in Huntington Beach and plan to drive down to Sea World, and the San Diego Zoo two of the days we're there. What is the best time to make the drive? (We're talking least amount of traffic here... ) We'll be going on a Monday and a Friday in June. We have a 1 1/2 year old so I want the drive to be as short as possible. Is it better to wake up super-early and get a head-start before commuters; or wait until 9 or so? TYIA!

The earlier the better is the way to go even though there's not as much traffic as going the other way, I still would say leave early, you'll make better time plus get there when the park opens.
