Thanks to us having APs I was able to do a last minute solo trip this past August. We live 9 hours from WDW. My schedule cleared for a few days all of a sudden, but DW could not join me. She practically insisted that I go, so withing 30 minutes I was on the road to Florida for a few days.

The really cool part was that DD (a college student) was already at WDW with a family friend (thanks, APs!). She nor our friend had a clue that I was headed down. I arrived at MK in time for the afternoon parade.I knew exactly where DD would stake out a spot. Sure enough I spotted her and our friend along the route in Frontierland. I crept up behind them and surprised them. It was all happy time and hugs. We did a few things together and then I retreated to enjoy a mostly solo trip, connecting with them for a couple of meals.

It was fun, but I'm not so sure I'm cut out for the solo part. There were times when I just felt awkward in ride queues. I ate QS meals, so that was no big deal. Glad I did it because the trip gave me a good excuse to get away and do some thinking. It was also a blast surprising DD and our friend.

Im glad you had fun! Last minute trips are the best. I LOVE solo trips and I personally never feel awkward...everyone is different though. I've never had issues dining alone or waiting in line for a ride alone. There are a lot of people who go solo to disney....just remember that when you feel awkward waiting in line for a ride....you're not the first one and you certainly wont be the last. ;)

I just got back from my solo vacay, which included a 2.5 day stop at DW. It was a really, really magical trip! My main goal was to see all the new stuff at Animal Kingdom. The first thing I got in line for was Avatar Flight of Passage, and there was a lady behind me who asked if all the wait times around the parks were as long as this (it was her first time at DW). Come to find out she is a cast member at Disneyland Paris and came to the states mainly to explore DW with her two young daughters. We ended up hanging out all day and met up again the following night for fireworks and extra magic hours at Magic Kingdom! I also went back the next day to wait another 2+ hours for Flight of Passage and ended up talking to another lady with kids to pass the time. I did a character meet and greet and lunch alone along with a half day of shopping at Disney Springs. Didn't feel awkward at all. I also bought new Mickey ears, which was a great conversation starter with folks - they are new mouse ears with the interchangeable bows. :)
