Best socks to wear with braces/AFOs at Disney?

DS (age 10) has been in an aircast for several months. He usually wears the tall, colorful Under Armour type socks that boys like these days. Those work well to provide a layer between his skin and the aircast. On our rare very hot days (it has been a cool summer here in NH) he has worn ankle socks. Those have worked fine too, kept him cooler and it was ok having the aircast directly on the skin for a short period of time.

As we prepare for Disney next week I feel like neither of these are good options! In the tall socks he is going to roast and sweat! I can't imagine that the aircast directly on the skin all day, in the extreme heat and humidity would be good either (it would be so gross by the end of the week!).

I was hoping someone who has more experience with wearing braces/AFOs/etc might have a sock they suggest.

Thanks!

Not socks, but Tubigrip bandages. It comes in one long tunnel that you cut to length, it's very stretchy, and they offer a variety of different sizes https://www.bing.com/images/search?...608055126085796906&selectedIndex=0&ajaxhist=0

Since its generally used for compression which he doesn't need, you could go up one size. Once yo determine what you want, order it on Amazon.

The advice provided says to cut it twice as long as needed and double it up. He should be able to use it as a single layer. It will work as a liner, and he won't need socks. Any questions about it, ask me :)

Oh...this looks and sounds like it will be perfect! He can wear ankle socks which I think will be much cooler.Thank you so much!! I knew I would find a great answer here:worship:!
I can't wait to measure his calf in the morning, ha.

Absent a serious medical condition, no one will roast wearing socks in Orlando in August. If you're worried, try moisture wicking socks, which is something most athletic socks should have anyway, in a light color.

Smartknit socks are often used with AFOs - they are expensive, but you could probably wash them out in the sink, squeeze out the water with a towel, and then air dry them overnight in the room.

Or wear one special sock under the aircast and one sock of his choosing on the other foot. That way you'd get 2 days out of a pair of the more expensive socks.

That's a great idea!

Thanks again for the suggestion! The tubigrip arrived today and DS was excited to try it. He only wore it for a few minutes but he really liked it. Only 4 days until we put it to the real test in Disney!
