Looking for sites to search to find cheap(er) airfare for flights departing less then 7 days from now. Any suggestions?

You have to LOOK EVERYWHERE, sometimes a "vacation package" including a cheap room you never use, or even check in, is cheaper than just buying airfare without a package.

SITE59 is supposed to be good for this. They "bundle" things together for deals.

Delta sends out an email on Tuesdays if you sign up on thier web site for departures on Saturday returning Mon or Tues. AA used to do something about the same.

(That said I have never found a great deal I figure SW's refundable are your best bet)

Have you signed up for the Ding rates from Southwest. They have had some really good deals coming through. Although you'd have to go to Manchester or Providence to access them. I just got a $59 flight to Tampa from Hartford. :)

I buy a lot of tickets 0-7 days in advance. Sometimes there are no longer advance purchase restrictions - I flew to LAX last week for less than a normal ticket costs me at 14 days out (and it was over spring break for much of the West Coast)

But as others say, sometimes a package is a good way to go. Out of curiousity I checked Expedia and a flight with car was almost equal to what I paid for airfare only (but since I wasn't paying for the ticket and the package was not with my preferred vendors, I went with the airfare only option)
