I'm a resale owner looking to add-on a few points direct from Disney in order to get some of the perks. (I know not guaranteed forever, but I would still like to have a blue card :) ) As a Canadian, I can't just call up Disney from home to buy points so I would have to do it while on vacation.

I've read somewhere that buying points on a cruise is the best way to buy direct. My question is why is this? Are the taxes and incentives different depending on where you buy? We are going to Aulani in November, so would buying in Hawaii be different than buying in Florida or California? Should I be waiting until we go on a cruise, which could be a couple of years away? Our exchange rate right now isn't good, so every little bit counts!

TIA

The sales center at SSR is the main sales center. Contact your guide and set up an appointment.

Where in Canada are you? I was able to just call direct and get my addon....I'm in Ontario.

In the early time of DVC, on cruises they used to give more incentives, but it's not the case anymore.

Good to know :) Is there a difference in taxes? I read that cruises were in international waters and therefore didn't require buyers to pay taxes. I was wondering if this was accurate and if so, does that mean the taxes are different from state to state?

What taxes?

If you go there in person you can sometimes get a gift card for talking to one of the people at the DVC kiosk as well as some fast passes. I don't know if they won't give you anything if you already own, but that is one route if you already know what you want and how many points.

Alternatively if you are looking for a good guide, you can PM me and I'll give you the contact information of who I met with there and was very good. You could probably set up the appointment via email or phone call with him and have everything all ready to go when you get down there to just sign off and move forward.

This is what I don't know since I never bought direct. I just remember somebody in a different group mentioned taxes as a savings for buying points during a cruise. ie: no taxes in international waters.

Where I'm from every real estate transaction is subject to a property transfer tax, but I'm completely unfamiliar with the US. I suppose it would be considered part of closing costs if there are taxes.

If there are none, all the better, because I can buy in Hawaii instead of waiting for another trip!

Local laws dictate what the real estate rules are and DVD has to be licensed in the location of the sale. On cruises, my guess is that the sales are processed somewhere else. Looking at our direct contracts, I don't see any special taxes other than recording fees.

Sounds good! Now I'll try to convince my husband to add on when we're at Aulani in November!
