We will be visiting Disney's Vero Beach for the first time in October. What is the best route from Orlando on a Saturday morning? My map programs are coming up with several routes and we are not familiar with the area so I have no idea what to avoid or what may be better/worse on a Saturday. We will be coming from Universal Studios. Thanks in advance!

I forgot to ask..is the 1 hour 40 minutes predicted by Google Maps about right? We have an ADR for character breakfast at 10:30 and I was planning on leaving Universal 8-8:30am.

Just make sure you have a roll of quarters with you, lots of tolls, some without a attendant. Or get sun pass for the tolls. Without any traffic problems, you should be there in less than 1 1/2 hours.

Tolls were the other question I forgot to ask about :)
We are from Illinois and have an I Pass that does work in some other states but I am not sure about Florida. Does using a Sun Pass reduce the amount of tolls paid or just make things easier? Here in IL some of our tolls are double without the I Pass!!!
Any guesses to what the cost will be in tolls? We will be driving from Vero back to Illinois most likely via 95 N so it would be good to get an idea of toll costs on 95.

If they go SR-528, all toll plazas they would pass through will have manned lanes.

Currently, the only out-of-state tolls systems that are accepted in FL are from GA (Peach Pass) & NC (Quick Pass).

Electronic tolls are less than cash tolls.

If you take SR-528, you would pass through 3 main line toll plazas with a total one-way cash toll of $4.25 ($2.25, $1.00 & $1.00). The SunPass rate would be $3.51.

As for any tolls on I-95: http://www.i95exitguide.com/tolls/

It took us a little longer we got stuck in traffic. I would allow hours to be sure.

Thanks Michael!! That's super helpful-it doesn't seem worth it to look into a Sun Pass and now I can be prepared with change :)

What day of the week/time of day did you encounter traffic?

It was a Saturday morning. We did not expect it at all. Must have been some vacation traffic. It was coming into Vero the traffic got slow.
