We'll be staying at AKL for the first time over Thanksgiving, any advice on the "best view" rooms?? My kids are VERY excited about seeing all the animals! Also, If you requested a certain savannah, did you get it?? Is it worth requesting, or just see what we get? Thanks!

We upgraded to Savannah after we checked in so we did ZERO research on best places to be for a savannah view. All I can say is that we ended up in the Sunset Savannah on the third floor. I think room 3268 if you have a map. We saw the animals at pretty much all times of the day and even at night (they light the savannah very dimly, but you can still see--it's very pretty). There was a herd of animals we never saw during the day sleeping outside the window.

I think we saw most of the animals they have out there except for zebras in that savannah. I don't know why they don't go there. We didn't feel we missed out on anything though. Giraffes would roam from time to time and I think every time we looked out the window there was some kind of animal or bird outside. We really enjoyed the ostrich - they are so big! I was surprised at how much the animals were out in general.

I felt the third floor was a good floor to be on - we weren't too high or too low. We made sure the CM put us in a good room since we paid for the upgrade and we wanted to make sure it was worth it. It helps to go to a CM who at least looks like they know what they're doing. Our CM pulled up available rooms in her computer and looked at each one on the map before she found one that she thought was a good one.

Good luck!

lAS,
How much did they charge for your upgrade? I want to upgrade maybe since the only room we were able to get was a standard view. Thanks for your help

Well, we received a complimentary upgrade to pool view upon check-in without asking. After we looked at the room, we went back to front desk and asked how much to upgrade to savannah. We told them we were in a pool view room now. They told us it was $10/nite. I think they eventually figured out that we didn't pay for the pool view, but they didn't make us pay the cost of a standard view to upgrading to savannah which according to them was $61/nite.

Hope this helps...good luck!

We stayed in room #4425 (which is on the 4th floor, Zebra Trail) and had a wonderful view of the Arusha Rock Savannah. I did request the Zebra Trail overlooking Arusha Rock but when I checked in the CM told me she had us on Kudu Trail. I asked if there was anything available on Zebra and she said sure but on the 4th floor (we requested 3rd). We took it. They were very, very accomodating with the requests (even right at checkin!!).

You will fall in love with the resort. We did and as you can see from below - we are going back. Just remember to take time to enjoy the resort. That is the one thing I regret - not having enough time planned to just relax on the balcony.

Your room 4425 sounds like a great location. Was your room close to the pool and the Mara? Did you request anything when you booked or just fax 3 days out??? thankss...amy

Make sure you put your most important requests first. If 2nd floor is more important than zebra trail, put that first.

If you decide on arusha savannah, put that 1st, then zebra trail. Both kudu & zebra overlook arusha savanna, so you could get either if you don't specify. BUT, don't just put Zebra trail, if you specifically want Arusha Savannah, because the other side of zebra trail overlooks Uzima savannah.

I've heard of a people not getting their requests at all, simply because it seemed like no one looked at them! Go to check in prepared to negotiate a little if you want a specific area :) The resort was very crowded when we checked in & the CM worked very hard to find us a room that met our needs.

we were in 4511 and this is a pic of what we had outside of our balcony almost every time we looked out.
