Carmine's. Italian family style restaurant. The portions are huge as they are meant to be shared. The food is so good that my mom has their cookbook. http://www.carminesnyc.com/

Ruby Foo's is great for sushi/chinese and reasonable too! I also love Ellen's and Carmines - you will need reservations for any of these retaurants usually - just an FYI!
Thanks for this thread! We'll be going up for a day in December, and with the new Disney Store opening up in Times Square I'm sure our little ones will want to spend some time there.
Visit Restaurant Row, which is on 46th street between 8th and 9th. There are a ton of great restaurants there, with prix fixe meals. Two of my favorites are Becco (if you've ever watched Lidia's Italy on PBS, she's the owner) and Les Sans Culottes, a french restaurant. Here are the websites: http://www.becco-nyc.com/# http://lessansculottes.ypguides.net/
I'll second the Becco suggestions. Carmines is good but the portions are designed to be shared. 3-4 unless you have a large appetite. Can be an issue if everyone wants something different.
