What restaurants would you be most comfortable in as a solo diner and why?

not sure what I was thinking on one of my solo trips..... but I had breakfast with Aladdin and Friends and I felt a bit silly.

But I've loved eating at Mama Melrose in MGM, Rainforest Cafe just outside of AK, San Angel Inn in Mexico..... just to name a few.

My favorite was Chefs de France, where I made sure I got a window table. That way I could watch the people go by. Also, the act with the myme and the man who balances on the chair was going on so that was a lot of fun to watch too. I haven't dined at Sci-Fi solo yet, but next time I will. Last trip with my son was my first time there, and since everyone watches the screen, being solo isn't a problem there either. Oh, one other place that's sort of nice for solo dining is CRT. Ordinarily I don't like sit down dining alone, but they were so nice at CRT.

Oliva's at OKW is very solo friendly, having done it myself. Small place, not alot of huge tables, a table of "1" feels 'right' ! :)

I have dined solo at: Cape May Clam Bake at Beach Club; Trail's End Buffet in Fort Wilderness; Beaches and Cream at Beach Club; and 1900 Park Faire dinner at the Grand Floridian. Trail's End was the best!! 1900 Park Faire and Beaches and Cream were great, too.

The only one I felt uncomfortable was at Cape May Clam Bake, as I was placed in a walled-in area at a two-seater table directly next to a huge family at the next table. There were plenty of free tables, yet they place me awkwardly close to another large family. I still ate and had a nice meal, but felt uncomfortable as a solo.

I think it helps alot to get at a restaurant right at dinner opening or at off-times, so you aren't automatically squeezed too close to other people! :)

I had a delightful lunch at Brown Derby. I really felt comfortable wherever I chose to dine.

Boatwrights - POR, Chefs de France, Rose and Crown, LTT (lunch ala carte menu)

I've had nice solo meals at Cape May, Boma's, Chefs de France, Coral Reef, Tony's, Cinderella's Royal Table, Sci-Fi Dine In, 50's Prime Time Cafe and Flying Fish. They were all fun and I felt perfectly comfortable at each of them. I always have a guide book with me in case I want to read instead of people watch, but no one has ever paid any attention to me by myself. Chefs de France was great - a glass of wine and a seat by the window to watch the outside show was great!! Coral Reef is great - the aquarium keeps you occupied beautifully. Flying Fish - I sat at the "bar" area and watched the chef and chatted with him about the restaurant and resort. Cinderella's - a two-person table by the window just as Wishes started - beautiful!!! Solo dining is easy and fun - a great time to people watch and great meals!!!!

I had a few solo days in December, and I mostly ate counter service since it was my first time solo. I did, however, try out ESPN Club at the Boardwalk. I figured that with all those TV's going I wouldn't feel uncomfortable, and I was right - not only that, I really enjoyed the food there!

I'm feeling a little braver now, so I expect to do a few more solo sit-down meals in May. Right now I'm leaning toward a couple of the Epcot restaurants, maybe Chefs de France or Rose and Crown.

I'll report back after my trip on how it went! :)

Hi!

I would recommend Teppanyaki...it is Japanese hibatchi-style cooking. So you are seated with 5 other people and get to watch the chef cook in front of you! It is a great way to interact with people at the table and have entertainment while you eat. It would definitely take away the weird "I'm sitting all alone" feeling. And the food is REALLY good! Enjoy!

when I eat alone, I like to eat at a restaurant with something to do or watch like Sci-Fi, 50's Prime Time, ESPN Club, Whispering Canyon, etc. Another option would be a window seat like some of the others mentioned. I hate just sitting and having nothing to look at except watching other people eat.

thanks for all of the opinions! I eat alone alot because of my work, so that doesn't concern me. I really just wanted to know which you most enjoyed solo, and you certainly have provided me with that info! Thanks!

When I was there 'solo' I ate at Chefs de France, Kona Cafe, had clam chowder etc. at the Harbor House several times and tried Rose and Crown. I had my little trip notebook with me and used the time to record my trip notes and do some people-watching.

Everywhere I went that trip I talked with people in lines, people at nearby tables and even helped a struggling mom with her three young children. Being alone I found myself initiating conversations with almost everyone including many CMs. It was an eye-opener for me; seeing my normally shy self being so different!

Jiko, at the Cooking Place.

GREAT IDEA!

I'd also suggest Citrico's and asking for a window seat, the California Grill, the Yacht Club Gally, the Kona, and the GF Cafe. When dining alone I'd rather not do a buffet place, I like to take an engrossing book and not have to keep getting up.

Artists Point might also be a nice place to dine alone.
