Best resort for solo traveler?

If you are going solo, which is the best resort? It can be value, moderate, or deluxe.

I'm going in August, and I'd rather not sweat my butt off walking over to the food court, so something like the Wilderness Lodge might be ideal.

Any suggestions?

If I ever go to WDW solo, I would totally stay at the WL. I love it there and....I feel SAFE there.

I've got my first solo trip early next year and am going to book the Yacht Club. (I've stayed there before with family/friends). I've chosen the Yacht Club as it's all under one roof, there's a couple of light dining options such as Beaches & Cream and the Marketplace, and also I've got the other hotels near and the Boardwalk for even more options.

I would recommend the Boardwalk or Beach Club. You can walk to Epcot and a quick boat ride to MGM. It has many dinning options and nightlife so you wouldn't have to worry about getting back on a bus or taxi at the end of the night. Have a great trip.

Wilderness Lodge IS ideal for solo...compact (relatively) and safe, but also quiet. I spent most time at MK, so that boat ride home was fantastic.

Have a Magical Trip!

I'v already had 8 solo trips. I have stayed at The Swan, The Dolphin,
Port Orleans Riverside, Coronado Springs, and The Boardwalk Villas.

For a solo, I would recommend anything on Disney property
EXCEPT the value resorts.

That said, I truly prefer Swan / Dolphin, or Boardwalk Villas.

Any resort you like that fits your budget is great for a solo. I have to give some love to Pop Century. I think it's great for the price, and just the right size for one. ;) Also, there's a lot of drama about the outside walkways being unsafe. (Just put the latch on the door and you'll be fine.)

Thanks for the suggestion! I stayed at the WL before and was right out near the lobby, which was always very loud from Whispering Canyon. Maybe I need to suggest a room somewhere else besides the lobby? Where was your room?

Don't rule out the value resorts, specifically Pop Century. I stayed there solo in November. 6 nights, and LOVED it! If you book a preferred room you'll be close to the food court and the buses... and the bus service there is amazing. My room was a 2 minute walk to the main building, and a minute more to the buses.

Claudia, why do you not recommend value resorts for a solo stay?

When I stayed solo at POP I felt VERY safe. Whether there were people around or not, I never felt unsafe walking around alone at night. Just be careful, watch whats happening around you... just like you would walking at night in your own city.

I stayed at Pop as a solo as well in November. I was really surprised how much I liked it. I stayed there only because of the good rate. The food court had great options, but my room was really far away from the main building and buses. I'd have to request one of the "preferred" rooms next time.

I really like Pop too! I am staying there for the third time this September. I always request a room in the 50's buildings, and that always works out well for me.

I could save up for awhile, and be able to afford a moderate, or even a deluxe, but I'd rather take a trip every year, and stay at a value, then take a trip every few years and stay at a deluxe.

Another vote for POP! I stayed there solo in 2006, and it was perfect. Going solo, i just cant see spending that much money on a Mod, or Deluxe when i'm only there 2 sleep. (I spend all my time in the parks.) Now, maybe in the value seasion, i would love to stay at POFQ, thats where my family and I have stayed in the past, and its a awesome resort.

I have gone on 3 solo trips and stayed at Pop twice ( prefered room) and at CSR. I am going solo again in April and staying at BCV for my first DVC stay.

I really enjoyed Pop and CSR, but CSR is a lot of walking.
I would suggest POFQ if you go mod, nice small resort.
I stay at CR in a Garden wing room with my DH and we really liked that. The garden wing rooms were much cheeper that the tower and less than a minute walk to the lobby, loved being at a monorail hotel.

Will you all put my mind at ease. I plan to do a solo in May and was thinking of the POP (Preferred room) because of the cost. After reading your comments, I probably will stay there.

value - Pop!!!

moderate - POR or POFQ or CSR

deluxe - Polyn

DVC - VWL, BCV, AKV or OKW - if PI then SSR

remember to kept your guard up even at WDW. Crazy people are everywhere. Not to mention thiefs....

there are several thiefs that seem to speciality on WDW.

Interesting question.

If I were to go solo I'd stay at the CR. Easy to walk back and forth from my room to the MK whenever I felt like it...:cloud9:

My first trip to Disney was in 2002 and I did it solo as have most of my trips to The World. I also stayed at the WL, and was perfect for a solo traveler. I was on an upper floor (possibly the 4th) and the view looked out towards the quiet pool of the WLVs. It was quiet but had a pretty decent view. I'd definitely recommend it.

as a solo traveler, which of the PO resorts is the better for relaxation and scenery? POFQ or POR?

I stayed as a solo traveler at POR last year. I did venture over to POFQ and it seems more congested and compact. I stayed in the Magnolia Bend area and it was just short walk to the food court. I'd recommend the first couple of buildings once you cross over the bridge into Magnolia Bend on left or right. Very tranquil.

I went solo last week for the half marathon and stayed at POFQ and really liked it. The resort is small and quiet. When I booked I told them I was traveling solo and wanted a room that was relatively close to everything so I didn't have walk that far alone at night. They put me in Building 5 which is close to the pool and main building.
