Already planning our next trip (that is, the trip after this one in September :D ).

Curious, which Disney Resort would you say is the best for a more relaxed, quiet (ie, less children) vacation. I realize Disney is for kids, but our next time out, we want to take it slow, relaxed and enjoy a more quiet atmosphere (if possible! ;) )

Here are our choices:

Probably the quietest resort where I have stayed in Wdw would be Port Orleans-Riverside, in the mansions. I was there at a quiet time of year, but it seemed that the majority of families with small children stayed at Alligator Bayou-I'm guessing because of the trundle beds.

Anyhoo, I think the fact that the busiest pool, and the playground were on an island in the middle of the "river" helped to keep the noise down. I also asked for parking lot view, because in front of the rooms is a small "yard" that is landscaped and fenced in, and I couldn't really see the parking lot unless I went through the yard. This was also on the opposite side of the building from the pool. I chose Arcadia House because it is not the most popular of the mansions.

The walk around the mansions and the bayou is beautiful and peaceful when I have been there.

So, can you tell that I love this resort?

My choice would be AKL but you don't have it listed so I guess I won't vote!! I certainly don't think Beach Club, Contempory or Boardwalk are quiet at all...CS has a conference center..that is one I haven't stay at, but I wouldn't think it would be quiet either.

I voted for the Polynesian. While the Grand Ceremonial House can certainly be bustling with people attending character meals, the luau or just checking out the resort, there are always many quiet areas of the resort.

We've found the quiet pool to be just that during most times of the year. The North side of Rapa Nui, East side of Tokelau and South side of Tahiti face a beautiful, huge and quiet courtyard. The North side of Tahiti faces a quiet beach and is in the same quiet part of the resort, too, obviously.

We've never stayed on the West side of the resort but it always seems quiet over there too when we walk through coming back from the GF.

Although it's not listed on your poll, the quietest resort I've stayed in is the Grand Floridian.

I imagone pretty much anywhere tthat has a concierge lock out floor - we did concierge at the contemporary - very quiet - and there is a pool that the kids don't go to as it is a "deep pool" - the kids tend to stay over in the themed pool with the slide...

concierge - no kids running up and down the hallway, nobody stoppin at your floor that shouldn't be there... very quiet

I agree with mep319. AKL wasn't listed so I voted for Poly which runs a very close second for us. We too do not like Epcot resorts for layed back relaxing vacations. Although we like being close to Epcot, it's more like staying in downtown hotels.

It's not on your list, but I would definitley vote for Old Key West. Spread out, peaceful. Even with a lot of people there it always seems pretty quiet.

My vote goes for the Poly.

It's laid back and peaceful. Beautiful at night.

Last Sept. we had a room at the Boardwalk Resort by the Rose Garden area (very close to the quiet pool). It was beautiful, verrryy quiet, romantic, and just plain wonderful!! My second choice would be the Poly--also very quiet and relaxing. The YC/BC are also quiet, but not quite as romantic--in our opinion. Our room at the GF, while lovely, was rather loud--we could hear everything going on outside our room--not so at the other resorts!

Good luck and best regards,
Kim

I'll have to agree with mikesmom and say OKW . Probably one of the most laid back resorts.

I'd vote for OKW too. No hallways, so no problems with kids running (unless they are in the room above you, request top floor if you want maximum quiet). Request a water view, no problem with the golf course mowing early. Get a 1 bedroom or larger and you can really spread out.

My vote would be the GF but it's not on your list. :) We found it the quietest and there were very few kids.

Another vote for Old Key West. I find the resort very relaxing with the pastel colors and lovely scenery!!

I voted for the Polynesian since my number #1 and #2 most relaxing resorts were not mentioned.

I think that OKW cannot be beat for relaxing. At OKW you feel like the hustle and bustle of the parks is far, far away (mostly because it is ;)). I don't play golf and hate to watch it on TV, but I really like to watch the golfers play though outside my spacious porch. lastly, the color scheme is soothing and quiet. Splurge and rent points for a 1 BR. You will never want t to leave.

My #2 resort is also out of the way. It's the Animal Kingdom Lodge. We spent hours on our balcony sipping wine, snacking and watching the animals. It was very relaxing. The theming of the resort was much stronger, but we loved it anyway. There are lots of out-of-the-way viewing places that were usually empty when we walked by. Very nice!

My #3 relaxing resort is the Polynesian. I was in Hawaii after staying at the Polynesian and there were a lot of similarities. I think the Polynesian beach is very relaxing and romantic. Take a nap in the shade or enjoy a cocktail at the Tambu Lounge. Get a drink in a pineapple ... the Lapu Lapu is sure to relax you!

Thanks for everyone's responses! Some mentioned that their favorite resort wasn't on the poll:

I didn't have CBR, because we've stayed there twice. I didn't have WL because we're staying there in September and GF is a little out of our price range. The list in the poll are the resorts that we haven't stayed at that we would like to try, hoping for a little more quiet and relaxation....

Keep the suggestions coming! Thanks again!

:) :) :) :) :)

When I think of relaxing at Disney (getting away from it all) I would go with a moderate, especially POR (Mansions) or CBR. Old Key West and AKL are also great options as well. A resort that hasn't been mentioned, that is also very peaceful is Fort Wilderness - one of their cabins. That is also a beautful resort. Just my thoughts.

The Rancho section at Coronado is extremely quiet. This is a great hotel for adults who want a break from the hustle and bustle of parks.

Add me to the list of AKL people. I voted for the Polynesian. It wasn't the quietest, that would have to go to the BWI, but was definitely the most relaxing of the ones on your list.
