Best resort for older kids (teens)

Hi all

I'm debating buying into DVC and wrestling with which would be the best home resort in the future for my family when the kids are older. Right now the kids are 5, 3 and 3 and they love the AKL which makes it tempting to pick that as the home resort.

But I'm trying to think ahead to another 10 years from now to see which area my kids would like the most. Both the Epcot DVC resorts would seem like fun for teens but I can't say that from first hand experience.

For those of you with older kids (teens), which resorts have they enjoyed the most?

Also, when these memberships expire in 2042, what happens then? Will there all of a sudden be a huge shortage of DVC members other than those who hold SS and AKL memberships? Or are they banking on people buying into yet-to-be-built resorts by that time?

Thanks in advance,
Rene

My twins are 14 and their favorite resorts are BCV and BWVs (we own at BCV). They like being able to walk to Epcot and MGM and the area is beautiful.

Now we haven't stayed at SSR yet, and others have said their teens like it there, and we are giving it a try in March so we will see.

Per the OP, I would say BWV or SSR. BWV has lots of things to do around the Boardwalk and SSR has downtown Dis. Depending on your circumstance, with SSRs expiring in 2054 and the MFs being among the lowest (if not the lowest?) of all resorts, it was an easy choice for us. Our kids are 12 and 5 and really enjoy both resorts.

Good luck with your decision! :thumbsup2

What will the kids' favorite television program be in 10 years?

What will be their favorite music artist or sport in 10 years?

All of those questions are just as unanswerable as the one you are asking.

The people in the equation whose tastes are least likely to change are those of you and your spouse. DVC is not a 2-year or a 5-year or a 10-year commitment. It's a 35 to 50 year commitment. Long before we reach the year 2042 (much less 2057) your children will have moved on and started families of their own. Even before that happens, things like school extracarricular activities and even personal taste may keep them from joining you on your family trips.

My point is simply this: the people who have to live with your decision the longest are you and your significant other. Choose the resort that best suits your tastes in the long-term. In the short-term you'll have plenty of opportunities to satisfy the desires of your fickle (and I say that having two young children of my own--yes they ARE fickle ;) ) family by sampling all of the different resorts.

Good luck.

Great points.

Is it safe to say that (realizing it depends on time of year, type of room etc), if owning at BCV or BWV, that it would be easier to book AKV at the 7-month
interval than it would be, if we owned at AKV), to book BCV/BWV at the 7-month interval?

It just sounds like for location, proximity to food and Wine, that the Epcot villas seem generally more in demand.

For what its worth...I have 14, 18, and 22 year old sons, with a 20 year old daughter. They will not let us stay anywhere else other than SSR precisely for easy access to DTD.

Our young adults are 20 and 23 and prefer SSR too for the same reasons.

My vote would be SSR for longer contract and downtown disney.

Best, Goldi

I agree. Downtown Disney is just walking distance or a boat ride away...

I own at BCV, VWL, and AK.
I think that my older children prefer BCV area because of the ease of getting to the parks. VWL is next easiest and has a lot of fun things to do at the resort.
AKL is probably the least favorite for them because of the transportation issues.
