best resort for family of 5

Hi again. thanks for the reply. How long are you staying for at that price? May I ask where you got the package through? We are from Canada and sometimes out of the loop:) My husband doesn't think the dining option would benefit us??? I still am pondering that one. I think the YC looks like a great location as well. Any other tips, I am all ears. Thanks again for your time:goodvibes

The trip we booked was for 7days 6 nights. We saved all of the receipts from our meals and added up what we would have paid without the dining plan. We saved about $200 by using the dining plan. As far as breakfast, we booked a couple of buffet character ones and had so much food that a snack held us over until a 5 or 6 o'clock dinner in most cases. We were fortunate and got bumped up to consierge level where breakfast and midday and night snacks were provided, so we took advantage of the breakfast a couple of days. The rooms had a small refridgerator and a small (4 cup) coffee pot. No toaster. But on the boardwalk near the YC is the Boardwalk Bakery and with the meal plan a pastry counts as a snack so all you'd have to buy is juice and you've got breakfast. We didn't use a nearby store for anything. We had so much food on the dining plan that we never really got hungry. Another thing that saved us money is we took water bottles with straps and those koolaid and water flavor packets and filled the bottles at water fountains and added the mix and the kids stayed hydrated and happy. We stayed happy because we weren't having to buy cokes every hour. If you have anymore questions I'd be happy to help. oh, I got my package through a travel agent, but when I went on the Walt Disney World web site, I got the exact same price.

We will be a family of five going in May 2008. It will be myself, dh, ds 8, ds 5, and my mom. POR looks great and that was my initial choice, but I am concerned about having only one bathroom. What do you guys think? My only other option is two rooms at a value, probably ASSP. I would love to stay at a delux resort for 5, but am unsure if I want to part with the money and I would still have the one bathroom problem. Good thing I have plenty of time to decide!

I am faced with the same dilema. Party of 5, after pricing and I decided to do 2 rooms at POP instead of POR, will save about $200 and this is during xmas07, plus since DM is paying for DD and DN it was alot easier to split up the bill, so grandma and granddaughters are together in one room and my sister and I are in the other. :woohoo:

It's really hard for a family of 5. My options for our next trip are: Port Orleans Riverside, All Stars Music Family Suite or two connecting rooms at All Stars Movies. We'll probably do the ASMu suite or the two rooms at ASMo due to having a bigger room plus two bathrooms for us all.

What do you think of the value resorts? I think they are a good option for a family of 5, but are they louder than elsewhere? I just think if Disneyworld is providing so much stimulation it would be nice to return to a more relaxing environment to rest. ? POR sounds a little quieter than the POP or All star resorts. I am wondering about all of this. Also checking into the suites at the CSR for fun? Any input on this is appreciated :goodvibes

Hi! :goodvibes

Our family:grouphug: Me, Hubby, DS(10), DS(8) & DS(5) have been to Disney 5 times since 2003. We have stayed at:

POR - Nice but had to walk for ever for everything.

Animal Kingdom Lodge - Deluxe Savannah View - Loved it because we luv animals. Close to Animal Kingdom Park, but pretty far from all the other parks. Buses were good and really didn't take too long to get to places.

Polynesian - I think this is my kids favorite only because we hopped on the boat and across the lake to MK. Saw the fire works every night on the beach without having to be in MK. Very close to the parks (except AK) - came back to the Resort if the kids or hubby became tired.

Have fun! :wizard:

Thanks for the info. We also have looked at the Poly. We just returned from Hawaii last Feb. and had the most awesome time. Hawaii is very special. We are from B.C., Canada so the trip there is not too big. My kids are also nuts about Lilo and Stitch. The Poly rates are very pricey though and I would only stay if we could get a deal. How are the room sizes there for 5? Also, is there a fridge, etc.? The AKL looks so cool and the kids also like that. So POR was major walks to everything? What a dilemma. Have you ever split your stay? We are thinking of Oct. or Nov. of 2008 and for 8-9 nights? I love to look ahead and plan. My DH laughs at me. What do you think about Universal Orlando? We went to Universal in California. Quite liked it. We want to go when the weather isn't too bad for swimming in pools and waterparks. We have snow and wet rain and wind right now. Want a break from this weather.
