Best resort (deluxe or moderate) for late August with kids

I’m planning a trip with my nephew’s family for late August. He has two girls, one who turns 7 probably during the trip, and one who will be 9, turning 10 in October.

My nephew’s main concern is how the girls will handle the heat. My expectation is that we’ll hit the parks early, and spend some afternoon time at the pool or water parks. I’m expecting 6-8 days (including one or two to Universal).

I’m torn between the Contemporary, because it’s walking distance to the Magic Kingdom, and the Yacht/Beach club, because it has a great pool. I’d consider the Carribean Beach. I don’t think AKL, BW, or WL are ideal, nor any of the other moderate resorts.

Recommendations or suggestions? We don’t have any kids, and only see my nephew’s family once or twice a year. But I want this to be a great experience.

I would recommend Yatch/Beach Club. The pool is awesome for kids, and you have very easy access to two parks. The only thing to consider is how the girls are with walking. We were there at the end of June and ended up having to walk to/from HS due to the Skyliner and boats being down from lightning. My boys were 5 and 7 then, and managed the walk fine.

We did a 2 day trip in late August and lucked out because it was cloudy/rainy it saved us from the blazing heat of the sun. But the humidity was terrible. It's really the heat + humidity that's awful.

We were at CBR that trip and just used ride share when the skyliner went down.

We're staying at BW next, they got rid of the creepy clown pool and it's halfway between both Epcot and HS (more or less)....YC/BC has too hectic a pool for me to bring my 5 year old to. Once my youngest is a little older, we might try it.

Most kids that age just care that the pool has a slide and maybe like Disney themed rooms. So I wouldn't worry too much about what place they'll have fun at, mine have had fun everywhere we've stayed.

If you plan to spend 2-3 days at MK with the kids, the ability to walk there in the morning and back is a huge plus. The air-conditioned monorails also help! However, if the August heat is a concern (and it absolutely should be!) and lots of swimming could be on the schedule, then definitely BC/YC is the way to go. Along with Stormalong Bay, it's easy access to 3 other quiet pools at the resort.

Late August is when we typically go to DW. The Poly is my favourite resort for my end of August trips. Monorail, boat, buses get you where you need to go. Plus, we don’t mind the heat as much when we stay at a tropical like resort.

I detest the Contemporary that time of year. The walk to and from the MK kills me and makes me miserable. Love it at Christmas though. :)

Love the walking proximity to Epcot from Yacht and Beach Club, but not an enjoyable walk to HS that time of year. I personally don’t love SAB with kids. It’s packed that time of year. It’s hard to keep track of them, so not relaxing and the lazy river is super deep in parts, so encourage life jackets, even if they are decent swimmers.

I know you said you ruled out most moderates, but I’d recommend POFQ, especially since the worry is how the kids will handle the heat. It’s such a small, easy to get around resort, plus a nice hop onto an air conditioned bus to get to the parks. :thumbsup2
