What is the best price you have paid for a return economy flight to Orlando?

Who was it with and what was the route (Syd-LAX-MCO or BNE-DFW-MCO or SYD-AKL-LAX-MCO etc)? When was it? (Dec, Jan, Sept etc)

Was it cheaper to get a flight to LAX then do a separate one from LAX to MCO?

The current fare is about $3500 ret with Qantas (and not a lot different with V) and was wondering if they get any cheaper than that.

We flew in April 2010 via San Francisco, with United, for $1600 per adult.
I have a feeling the deal was something like fly to one of 100 cities in the USA or something like that.

We went with qantas to LAX then to Orlando via Delta. No sure on the details, will have to ask hubby. We went Nov last year.

Sept 2011 - Qantas $1250 pp return SYD - DFW - MCO . These were the introductory fares on the Sydney Dallas route - will be lucky to see that again.

I notice there are reasonable fares between Feb and end of March -if only i could take advantage :cloud9:

$1150

(SYD-SFO-MCO, BOS-SFO-SYD)

December/Jan

With the Best Airline in the World UA ::yes::

$3500 is awfully expensive - are you sure its not PE?
Yes, that's why I was a bit :scared1: and wondered what others had paid.
I looked at Qantas BNE-MCO return in December, Economy. Going over the cheapest day is $1570, return $1782, total $3356 return + $30 for credit card fee :scared1:

Just looked for December with UA and OMG, I had a  :rotfl: moment when I checked their flight for $2827. Going over SYD-LAX-PSP-DEN-MCO . That's an awful lot of stops along the way :lmao: (coming back was MCO-LAX-SYD)

Thanks everyone for the details, good to know for all of us about what we can expect to pay for flights and when we are getting good deals or in the case of almost $3500.. ripped off. December flights atm are just ridiculous! so they may come down by half with specials closer to the time.

You earn lots of miles :thumbsup2

You'd be amazed what they can offer you if you ask them to take you London :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
One took you to SFO or LAX...and then to the other...just to fill in time instead of taking you directly to where the SYD flight was leaving from :lmao:

And BTW...that $1150 fare.
There was only a $200-300 fee to change the final flight.
That's STILL cheaper than the base fare most other's have mentioned

I  UA

But it can be a load of fun playing on their website :lmao:

$1300 using UA for October 2010 (purchased tix in Jun/Jul).
MEL-SYD-LAX-MCO with return of MCO-SFO via AA and SFO-SYD-MEL on UA.

I've also seen Virgin provide a return MEL-SYD-LAX-MCO around $1150. That's what my brother got in May 2010 (purchased tix after Christmas). The LAX-MCO leg was on the red-eye.
Qantas was $1300 for MEL-LAX-MCO for the same time (purchased tix in Feb/Mar). The LAX-MCO was around 10.30 am (American Airline).

The cheapest I've seen Qantas was for around $1000 - $1100 in Jun/Jul 2009. That was when return to LA or SF was $950 (purchased tix in May for the $950 rate to SFO).

We also got Qantas rates of $1050 for Nov 2008; MEL-LAX direct. I think we purchased those tickets around Easter time that year.

The rate we got for the Jan 2011 trip was Qantas $1270 MEL-LAX return SFO-SYD-MEL. I got those tickets around November 2010.

Wow, it sounds like so many got cheaper flights than I could have dreamed of :rotfl2:. Last trip, late September Syd-LAX-NYC-MCO-SYD cost around $6000 for a family of 4. I thought that was around $500+ over priced but we were booking only 2 months out.

We are hoping to fly out on 9 Dec this year and would love to know when others booked December flights so we can keep an eye out.

I flew United 30 Nov - 14 Dec 2010 SYD-SFO-MCO and then MCO-LAX-SYD for $1387 First time I had flown international but their service was wonderful :)

I think its a little too early to book at a good price for travel in december, I would hold out until at least six mths prior and keep an eye out on bestflights.com.au I am holding out for our November fights as they are too expesive atm. Saying that they are only $2140 return. Sydney/Lax/Mco V australia....

We flew Delta in Sept 2010 $1470 Adults and $1130 Children and we purchased through Bestflights. I watched (read stalked) the airfare comparison sites for months before and ended up booking in July for the September.
In 2011 I also watched the fares to see if there was a pattern for dates in Sept, so I would have the heads up on 2012 and it appeared that certainly with Delta, their fares seemed to drop as the dates became closer (up until about 2 1/2 months out when they started to rise again).
In 2011, Delta fares started dropping around March, and they were offering $1770 Adults, booking around mid July but by the start of August were $1800 and then went up from that point.
Currently the Delta fares are about $2060 Adults (ouch!). Has anyone else noticed that at the moment, if you go directly to the Delta site, that they are showing 'not available' for nearly all dates in September/October? I am wondering what this is about? I thought I might call them but am not hopeful of actually getting a real human being on the other end!
Other sites like Bestflights and Expedia have the flights and dates available.
Hope that helps anyone planning for Sept 2012.

Aussietravellers, if you stumble across any good flight deals for December please keep me posted. You know I like to do whatever you do :lmao:

Ms Shuttergirl - if AussieTravellers gives you a good deal for early december can you let me know cause I like following you!

(oh and I want to take my niece for chrissie :santa:)

I have only ever travelled on discount Qantas fares - $1100 in 2009; $1350 in 2010; and half price PE in 2011. depends on what dates you are prepared to fly I suppose

The best deal we ever got was with qantas in 2009. Kids fly free with paying adult, and as our third child was under two by like a few wks he was free as well. I still look back and can't believe we got return flights for all five of us to LAX for $2500 return.......
