So, I have a 12 year old and it is clear that his mattress is a cheapo=flimsy mattress and as he gets older and heavier, it is not providing the support he needs. What brands/lines do you recommend for preteen/teen twin beds? And, when are the sales, etc. the best?

I need to prioritize this ---- I keep pushing it down on the list, but he NEEDS some sleep support for his growing body :-)

not sure about the sales, but we had a really good mattress on my sons "big" bed (he sleeps in a toddler bed for now though) because my paretns bought them for bunkbeds for my brothers a few years ago. We bought DD a cheaper mattress because we didn't think it mattered too much for a lighter weight kid, but we were wrong. We switched the mattresses and gave DD the better one and she sleeps much better. We'll replace the other one when DS starts sleeping in his big bed. We use Serta and Seeley. We bought a Serta crib mattress from Kmart in 2002 when I was pregnant and even after 2 kids, it looks brand new. It's been through the ringer and I wipe it down and flip it over each time I change sheets and it's held up wonderfully!Definatley shop around and get a good one, it does make alot of difference in your childs sleep! ( and i have alot of back issues and it is terrible to sleep on an uncomfortable mattress!!!)

I can't help you with the mattress part, but we bought a Smartbase for our bed- it is a metal frame that raises the bed about 14 inches off the floor, and acts as the boxspring as well. We like it a lot, and it is super sturdy.

Your child is only 12, he has 8 years at home still to sleep on it! Invest in something that you yourself find comfortable and would want to sleep on!

I agree with Sam's (we do not have a Costco), they have name brand items and the prices are very reasonable. This is where I purchased my childrens from.
