Best podcast app?

So I’ve always used the Apple podcast app but after the latest update I’m not happy (will refrain from very long rant). I mostly listen to the DIS podcasts while walking, driving, etc. so YouTube isn’t practical. What app is good? Something that’s easy to use and queue the episodes I want without having to subscribe to everything and have it all download onto the phone???

I believe you can use the free version of Spotify and still listen to podcasts like normal! I have premium so I could be wrong. That's my preferred app for podcasts. You can download if you want. You can also add episodes to your queue in any order for them to play.

I'm a fan of Overcast.

I used to have mine set up to auto-download episodes of certain podcasts when I was on WiFi, but have recently changed to Stream When Played. With my commute reduced to 0, I have less time for podcasts so I have become more selective.

With Stream When Played, you can subscribe to a podcast and new episodes will queue up, but not download until you play them or force the download. I'll go through a few times a week and remove episodes from the queue (those that I don't want to listen to for whatever reason) and force download the ones I want to listen to while I am on WiFi (to avoid data charges on cell).

I really enjoy the Google Podcast app. I don't think I've found DIS Unplugged there (Truthfully, haven't looked, it probably is), but I have found the DVC show on it.

I also use Overcast.

Other nice features:
-variable speed - play podcasts at 1.25x or faster
-skip silence
-skip a specific period of time at the beginning/end of podcasts - skip intro/outro or ads if they're always at the beginning of a podcasts

I've been a long time pocketcast user. Clean and simple UI. The one downside I find with most podcast apps is that the discovery functionality is pretty dismal
