We'll be driving from Southern Maine, so it's a long trip! any good places to stop along the way to break up the trip? We plan on staying over one night each way somewhere-but where is a good safe place for that? We have 3 kids, 5, 3 and a baby. Any suggestions are appreciated!

We usually drive it straight thru from just north of Boston. Can't offer you any specific ideas, but from all I've heard, and seen on these boards, as well as childhood memories, you gotta stick with the more reputable chains. Many New Englanders say that Fredricksburg, VA is a good half way point. It is a more suburban area near DC.

Good luck! We've driven with our boys at varying ages, our younger DS was 8mos. his first drive down. Older DS did the first drive when he was about 2 1/2 yrs old. I have lots of driving distraction ideas for kids, just PM if you want! ::MickeyMo

We stayed at Rocky Mount, NC, driving from just north of Boston. Just don't stay at the Holiday Inn there as it is run down. Comfort Inn was OK and I hear the Hampton Inn is nice. Since you are coming from Maine and with young children (mine are teens) you may want to make a stop before Rocky Mount. As the previous poster said, Fredicksburg, VA is another popular place to stop.
