We just closed on our DVC for SSR. When I get my membership number we want to try and go in Feb. What is the best area in SSR to try and get.? We have 9 and 7 yr old boys who love to swim(provided its warm enough). Any other pointers are welcome since we are new to this.

Many people here prefer the Grandstand because it's the first bus stop on the way to the parks and it has a pool with interactive water features. Others like Spring section because it's close to the main pool, the High Rock. It's also close to the food/store area, the boat stop to DTD and the Community center. I really like Congress Park section because I like the views of DTD from the pool at least, we've never gotten a view from our villa. There's a new pool going up which should give the other sections a cheerleading section too!

Have fun.Welcome Home, SSR neighbor!

Bobbi:welcome:

I've stayed in all sections except Carousel. My least favorite is the Springs. It's the closest but the bus stop is crowded (so many people from other sections end up at that one because they walked to the store, etc).

Even from the far side of SSR, the longest walk to the main pool is about 10 minutes. The sidewalks are huge and easy to walk, even at night. Congress Park also offers about a 10 minute walk to DTD, plus great views, so that is probably my favorite. We've always liked the Paddock but haven't stayed there since the themed pool area is being built.

If you get a chance, try the table service there, Turf Club. It's quite good but because of it's location at this out of the way resort, it doesn't get a lot of mention. For a 1TS credit on the dining plan, it's quite a nice meal.

My family has stayed at the Paddock, the Springs and Congress Park. Our overwhelming favorite is Congress Park because of the proximity to DTD and the view of DTD from the pool. Love the resort...one of our favorites!

We've stayed in Congress Park and the Grandstand and I'd probably recommend Congress Park given the age of your boys. The Grandstand pool is great for toddlers, but I'd bet your boys will be more interested in High Rock Springs. The view and the short walk to DTD will probably be plusses for CP for you. If DTD doesn't hold that much interest for your family, the two buildings nearest the Carriage House in the Grandstand might be a good choice -- very short walk to the Grandstand pool and about the same distance to HRS pool as Congress Park.

Have a magical stay!

This is our very first stay here at ssr, we like it, and got lucky in that we r in congress park. It's a great location. Today we walked to dtd, tonight we walked to the main area. Both easy and enjoyable ;)

SSR is huge. We stayed in Congress Park which was nice because we could walk to DTD (path was right outside our back door, as well as a small quiet pool) and had a bus stop right outside our door, it was the last bus stop, which was kinda nice because we didn't have to go around picking others up and got straight to the park. When we were there in Feb. buses were not that packed. When I walked around SSR, I realized Grandstand area was much closer to main building which with 2 small children would've been better. In Feb. it was FREEZING so we always called concierge to come pick us up in their golf cart if we had to go to main building, and tipped them $5. If it was warm out, we could've walked to main building, it wasn't THAT far. So, just some things to think about. I would stay at Congress Park again, if it was a time where it was warmer.

I love Congress Park. I spend a lot of time at downtown Disney so it is perfect for us.

Same here! :thumbsup2
When we stayed at SSR, we stayed in Congress park on the fourth floor, and had a great view of The hot air ballon over DTD...We could hear the music from it...LOVED IT! :lovestruc

I have stayed many times at SSR and am not up to date with the names, However, it is best so stay at a building near the main pool, which is also near the main entrance and restaurant. When you make the reservations, just make sure you explain that and that you do not want to stay in the back.
They will take care of you.

The floor is another to consider. Some prefer the views up top, but we have always preferred a bottom floor because you get a small patio to sit out on and no going up/down stairs or waiting for elevators.

Good Luck

My favorite area is Congress Park, DTD view, I've requested it 3 times and have gotten it each time. The view, even if only partial sometimes is nice and DTD at night is spectacular, love to have coffee in the morning looking out! There is a quiet pool right near by, you can walk to and from DTD. You can also walk or drive down to the boats, and get to DTD that way if you don't like to walk.

The main pool and the restaurants are 10-15 minute walk from there and we enjoy the landscaping of the resort, makes for a nice walk! We love the Turf Club, nice ambiance and really good prime rib!

During the day!

Another vote for Congress Park. We like walking to DTD, getting take out from Earl of Sandwich or Wolfgang Puck, some wine/beer and having dinner at the picnic tables while the kids swim in the quiet pools and play on the playground.

I think it is always best to stay as close to the main pool as possible. This is were all the action is usually. Food, drink, bathrooms etc. are so much more accessible and there will probably be more kids for them to play with then at the other smaller pools. Plus there are the slides at the main pool and the smaller pools are just that pools.
