So we have a couple of friends that want to meet up with us our 1st night at Disney - which works great because we get in so late in the day that we didn't buy a ticket to the parks. We were thinking of the boardwalk or downtown disney. Looking for a place to have a few drinks and a laid back supper - don't want to spend too much money on dinner - just something laid back. Anyone have thoughts???? ESPN club has come up in conversation - anyone have any other ideas - we would like to be able to talk without yelling over things as we haven't seen this couple in a few years!!! All thoughts are appreciated!!!

Hey there! It's kind of a tricky request, as pretty much all of the less expensive restaurants in either location are designed for "entertainment". The ESPN club is cool, but it is loud - there are about a billion TV's in there - and it can be hard to get into, if you are wanting to drop in (depends on the night - you may have to make a ressie about anywhere depending).

Pretty much anything at DTD will be the same -- Rainforest Cafe and REX are both priced pretty well (the drinks are spendy, but huge and strong), but have that "entertaining" atmosphere. REX in particular has a really cool bar, and a good menu - tho if you are eating dinner there, consider splitting the entrees as they are massive.

I haven't been to Capt'n Jacks, but the menu looks a little more spendy, since it is a seafood joint. I am guessing it would be a little quieter tho.

From my experience, pretty much every place will be loud - it's whether you want a more sporty atmosphere (ESPN) or something totally different like RC or Rex (seriously - Rex is neat).

I'm not sure where you are staying, or if you'll have a car, but if the answer is not at on or near the Boardwalk and no car, it can be a holy pain to get in and out of there, since you'll have to go somewhere else to catch a bus or boat to go there. All of the resorts should have a DTD bus tho.

Where are you staying?
How about meeting in one of the lounges in the resorts? I know a lot of times they can be relatively empty....I know the last time we stayed at WL, there was almost never anybody in the Territory Lounge. I'm not sure what they have food-wise, but you could always run down to Roaring Forks for a quick bite, and then hang out in Territory Lounge and chat. I know the lounges int he Monorail resorts get busy, but many others don't.

there is also the House of Blues. At the Boardwalk area there is also Big River Grille.

We usually stay at POFQ. The Scat Cat Club is a lot of fun. The food served is really just appetizers.

We are staying at POFQ and I think have decided on ESPN Club. We are going on September 2nd which is a Wednesday - don't think it'll be too busy but what's the best way to get there with no car?????

I'd take the bus to MGM and then you can either walk or take the Friendship Boat over to the Boardwalk area.

Was just going to post this same method -- the boat ride is pretty fun too, although slow. Make sure you give yourself PLENTY of time to get there - I'd budget an hour, just in case.
