I am going to be trying the Jillian Michaels "Master Your Metabolism" plan next week. She calls for veggies, dairy, bread and meats to be organic. I know some typical grocery stores carry some organic products, but I am wonderieng who has the best prices. I don't have a Whole Foods close by, but could go periodically. Trader Joes is also a bit far, but could make it there once a month or so.
My choices are Meijer, Kroger, Wal Mart and a local store that carries great products but has higher prices. I would like to get as much as possible at one place because I don't have time to go all over town each week.

I don't know about Meijer (I don't think there are any here in GA), but Kroger has quite a selection of Kroger brand organic products listed under the "Private Selection" label. I have found almost everything organic there (milk, eggs, canned goods, pastas, chicken broth, etc.), but it is hard to find organic meats, fruits, and veggies. I use Laura's Beef products, as they seem to be a close match for organic, but not certified. Occasionally I have seen organic meat at Kroger, but it is rare. Fish is also an issue I have had with trying to find organic, even Whole Foods doesn't really have organic fish. I usually stick with buying fish at Kroger, but make sure that it is wild-caught and either caught in the US or Canada (farm-raised has alot of antibotics added to ward off the diseases that occur from fish living in such close quarters.

Best of Luck!:thumbsup2

we order a lot from a local food coop. we also made friends with the folks from the farmer's market.

Our Meijer sells organic milk, butter, cheese (in the specialty cheese area by deli), eggs, cottage cheese, several fruits and vegetables and they just added organic, free range chicken. I have never seen organic beef or pork (I don't like pork, so I've never hunted). They also have organic bread, canned beans, some canned tomatoes, pasta sauces, etc.

Milk is cheaper at Kroger, but I just don't have good luck with Kroger produce in general, so I don't shop there. Wal-Mart doesn't really have a big organic selection ... ours did in the beginning, but the stuff would just go bad b/c there was no market for it, I guess. Wal-Mart does carry some Horizon brand organic dairy products and some organic beans.

Here in Austin we have Sun Harvest grocery, which has hands down the best prices I've ever seen. I think they have them in other states, but go by different names -- in Ohio I think it's Wild Oats. You might check to see if there is one by you. Hopefully their prices there are just as good.

Otherwise, there are CSA's. You pay for a subscription, and on a certain schedule you receive a delivery of direct from an organic farm of seasonal veggies. Try this website to find one near you: http://www.localharvest.org/csa/ . The extra good thing about this is that you support your local farmers. Some even do farm fresh eggs, meats, etc.
