Has anyone flown into Orlando and camped? I feel it would be too difficult to take all our camping gear on the plane.... is there a good place to rent tents and equipment close by the Fort?

There are kind of "rumors" that the Fort will rent you a tent and other equipment but some say its only for groups but I think depending on availablity anyone can rent and Disney sets it up for you.

Hear is one link that talks about it.

One is issue is the cost. I think I once heard the price per night and thought you could bring what you need (sheets, towels, etc.) and buy a tent and have it shipped and then either ship it back or just leave it or give it someone else.

Besides that the only sure option for renting I have ever seen is renting a trailer.

Some have flown and tent camped and even brought bikes with them.

teach,

We've had people fly in and tent. They brought their tent with them in checked luggage. You also have the option to ground ship your camping gear to the Fort before your arrival and can send it home the same way I guess (the old forum software had an easy-to-find search function but I don't see it here so I'll have to keep looking).

The Fort does rent cabin-type tents and cots if you want to rent it by the night. They will set it up for you before you arrive and take it down after you leave. It's not cheap but it's an option. Here are some pix from about 2 years ago.

Here is a tent of the type rented by the Fort.

And a cot rented by the Fort.

And rates. Looks like a tent is $30 per night and a cot $5 per night. Although the brochure pictured is focused on groups (larger numbers of people), I have seen Fort workers setting up a single tent on a site several times.

Hope this is helpful.

PS - the Tech Forum says the Search function is not ready yet but is coming....

Bama Ed is correct, as usual. I am not sure of what the price is but when we were there last Nov. I did see some CM's setting up a couple of these tents in the 2000.

It would be cheaper to bring all you can and buy a tent and a cooler from Wal-Mart online and have it delivered to The Fort.

Thanks for all the info!
I called the Fort and they directed me to another number that handles the tent rentals. I was told each tent is $33.75 per night and cots are $6.50 per night. They are set up and taken down for you.

Bama Ed loved the pictures!

I also like the idea of shipping our things ahead of time.

Thanks all!
