Best option for Sanford Airport transportation?

What is the current "best option" for round trip transportation between Sanford Airport and Disney? We don't have much need for a vehicle once at the parks, but also know that shuttles tend to be quite expensive from this venue.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

I have found that renting a car is the least expensive option. Unless you really don't want to drive at all on your vacation, that is the way to go.

Transfers are expensive and it is very easy to find your way WDW from Sanford. The way I take does not even cost you a toll. It is nice to be able to stop and get drinks or snacks and if the buses are bad (thinking of the excruciating trip to/from Downtown Disney) you can hop in the car whenever you want.

We arnt staying onsite but are flying to Sanford. I dont know how large your family is but here is a rental car deal I will use on friday this week. Go to www.budget.com use BCD code X474200 and coupon MUGZ029. These are public travelocity codes and no in hand coupon is needed. The coupon gives you $30 back at time of return. This is for a minivan at a total price of $298. This is by far the cheapest minivan/ rental rate i have been able to find. Hope this helps.

I was just researching this as well as we fly down in about a month. So far, I have found car rentals through the Allegiant site to be the best rates. However, I don't know if there are hidden fees once you get there and get the car. Does anyone know?

We have flown Allegiant to Sanford before, but not rented a car from the airport in the past. Years ago, we had a car service pick us up for around $75 each way; but I know the rates have gone up since then.

what car rentals can be returned at Disney and picked up there later in the week?

The fees aren't really hidden. Allegiant's website discloses the fact that:
Taxes, surcharges and fees are not part of your package price and will be collected by Alamo at time of auto rental pick up. Fees are the same for all rental car companies and are based on car size and season. Fees may include: Concession Recoupment Fee, Surcharge/Tire Battery Fee, License Recoupment Fee, state tax, and drop fee. Total may vary at time of rental based on the election of prepaid gas, optional coverage items or changes in taxes, surcharges and fees.

Get a price directly from a rental agencies website and you'll find out approximately how much those fees will be. My guess is about 30-40% of the rental cost.

I suspect the Allegiant rates, when you include all the fees and taxes, aren't much better then the rates you get after you shop.

While that can be true at times as the cheaper seats on each flight sell out, Allegiant also offers many the advantage of flying out of hometown airports on nonstop flights to Orlando. Not having to drive to an airport 1-2 hours away and not having to connect somewhere can be huge bonuses even where the fares end up being similar.

Alamo/National are located at the Car Care Center by the entrance to MK and at the Dolphin Resort.
Other rental companies are located in various DTD resorts. For instance, Budget is at the Doubletree.

I believe that poster was referring to booking a rental car through Allegiant, not airfare.
