We have 4 kids that will be 5 - 12 yrs old for our December trip, plus the baby DD will be 16 months old. It looks to me like the only reasonably economical option is 2 rooms at an all-star. Are there any suites at moderates? or is DVC an option without spending a mint?
I'm just looking for a 2 or 3 day extension to our trip, we're already staying 7 days off-site, timeshare exchange. Sure hope this free Dis Dining thing gets offered again for early Dec.

you could probably stay in a cabin at ft. wilderness. the bedroom would sleep your 4 kids, then there is a murphy bed in the living room. if your child is under 3 (which she is) she can stay in a pack and play. you would have a full kitchen, and all of the activities that ft. wilderness has to offer. plus you are just a boat ride away from MK.

also, you can rent points from a DVC owner. i understand it is much cheaper then booking directly.

good luck!

The least expensive option will be two rooms at one of the value resorts. The Ft Wilderness cabins may be an option. They sleep 6, but there may be a portable crib for an infant.

Early December is very popular at the DVC resorts - there may already be an availability problem. You'd need a 2 bedroom to accomodate 7 people. Rack rates are at least twice as much as two rooms at one of the value resorts. Doubt there will be discounts for your timeframe. If you rented points (if there is still availability) and only stayed 5 weeknights (Sunday - Thursday) at OKW (least expensive of the DVC resorts) and stayed during the first half of December, you'd have to pay between $220 & $286 / night. Friday and Saturday nights are more than twice as much as the weeknights. Again, two rooms at one of the values would be less expensive.

FWIW, I don't expect the free dining plan to be offered beyond the dates already announced. It looks like a promotion aimed at overcoming any reluctance to schedule during hurricane season. But perhaps Disney will come up with some other promotion for your dates.

Best wishes -

Hmm, the cabins sound good, DW is always bugging me for horseback riding when we travel.
I shall investigate further! :3dglasses
