Best. Noms. Ever. A SOLO DxDP Review with Pictures COMPLETE

Express ordering?!....self-serve kiosk?!! WHAT!?! How cool is that! Although I tend to be polarized towards Casey's while in the MK, I think this is someplace I might need to try.:).

I was there, so I thought I'd try. I've never been to Caseys. :headache: I guess I always have too many ADRs. . .

Actually my oldest does not like hot dogs and we try to make everyone happy on vacation with what we eat. There are so many places in Disney, it's not too hard.

I need this. Now.:rotfl: My DS10 had something like this in AK on our last trip. He couldn't finish it either and he's a big eater! Yum - O!

.

The ice-cream sandwich looks SO good! :thumbsup2

thanks for the great update. That ice cream sandwich looks YUMMY!!!

Now I want that ice cream sandwich Also can you get other cookies other then chocolate chip? Those Beignets I always feel i am on :cloud9:. If we go this year I will have to miss out on Beignets . But I could sneak away and hop to POFQ just for them.

The ice cream sandwiches are great! You could choose any type of cookie they had--just chocolate chip is my favorite.

I plan on going over to POFQ for the beignets. You can always go over on the boat from DTD and then go to whatever park you want to.

Dinner time tonight found me in Animal Kingdom. It was open until 7pm and I have to ride EE in the dark at least once on my trips. Seeing the Tree of Life lit up from there and looking across from the top at the lights from HS and Epcot is awesome!

So, being there at dinner time poses problems. There's only one place that appeals to me in Animal Kingdom, and that is Flame Tree BBQ. So, I had the same thing I had earlier in the week--the BBQ pulled pork sandwich.

The best part about the meal was my view where I sat. I had never gone down here before, and I am glad I did:

Again, Flame Tree is probably on the top 3 of my favorite CS locations in Disney, with them being:

Riverside Mill in POR
Flame Tree BBQ in AK
Earl of Sandwich DTD

Overall:
Atmosphere: 5 out of 5--Awesome View!
Service: 4 out of 5
Wait Time: 4 out of 5
Food Quality: 4 out of 5 It was a little less fresh--It was about 4pm in the afternoon.
Overall: 4.25 out of 5

Breakfast the next morning was at Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory. I was heading for an afternoon at Epcot World SHowcase and slept in that morning. I also had gotten the car partially packed that morning because it was my last day.

Breakfast was simple--a Mickey Waffle with Fruit and Sausage. I also got a soda and coffee.

The berries were refreshing in the winter--surprisingly quite fresh tasting. And of course, everything tastes better when it is Mickey-Shaped :).

Overall:
Atmosphere: 4 out of 5--I did sit near the clowns ;)
Service: 4 out of 5
Wait Time: 4 out of 5
Food Quality: 4 out of 5

For lunch, I decided on Cantina san Angel. I ordered the Cantina Nachos - tortilla chips, beef, cheese, tomatoes, jalapeno peppers, sour cream, black refried beans $8.75

IMG_0578.jpg

I did not like them. We have several authentic Mexican restaurants where I live and I completely prefer them to this. I think I even would prefer Taco Bell. The tortillas were slightly old tasting, and there were entirely too many jalapeno peppers.

For dessert, I got a churro.

IMG_0579.jpg

In the past, I have been rather dismissive of the churro. How good could it be? Oh, how very wrong I was! This was probably my 2nd favorite treat behind the ice cream sandwich and I would definitely get one again!

Overall:
Atmosphere: 3 out of 5--The area seems rather tight and very little seating for such a popular place
Service: 3 out of 5--I would have removed the jalapeno peppers from my order--they said it could not be done
Wait Time: 3 out of 5--This is the most confusing CS place there. It took me 10 min to figure out what I was supposed to do.
Food Quality: 3 out of 5
Overall: 3 out of 5

Seeing as I can get churros all over on property, I would not return.

Isn't that GREAT?!! That's exactly what I want to do when I'm there....order from Flame Tree, then go down to one of the lower seating areas and take in the atmosphere.:cloud9:

You are SO my "soul-food" sister!!:rotfl: Those are all my favorites too!

That's the first trip I took down there, but it is not going to be the last. I usually end up in one of the first seating areas, but Dan can help me carry stuff down there. :rolleyes1

Reason number 1 million and 1 to do a Tagless thread trip: most of us agree on the meal locations. :rotfl:

Great reviews!!

Thanks!

Dinner that night was one that I was looking forward to--I live near Myrtle Beach, and we are all accustomed to seafood buffets. Some are great--some not so great. But all in all, I love a good seafood buffet with crab legs.

My reservation was a 5:30pm ressie at

DSC_0056.jpg

I was seated promptly at 5:20, which had me all excited to begin with! I then got my drink order into my server, Michael (I only remember because I saw the receipt last night in my lanyard pouch) and then headed to the buffet. I started with of course, a big 'ole bucket of crab legs and clams

IMG_0643.jpg

IMG_0644.jpg

Both were delicious! It has been a long time since I'd had crab legs--not since Joe's Crab Shack this summer, so I was pleasantly surprised.

I also had a semi-salad plate. I say semi, because I managed some potatoes on it.

IMG_0645.jpg

I had potatoes, a salad, peel-and-eat shrimp, and a cucumber salad.

All were delicious. Of course, I had not had any mussels yet, so I got some more crab legs, mussels, a pasta with chicken, roast beef, potatoes, and mixed veggies.

THe only thing I did not like was the pasta.

Now, for those of you thinking I'm a great big pig by now, I must say this--I did not eat all of my nachos earlier that day because I disliked them so much. And that was about 5-5.5 hours earlier. And I had spent a good portion of the afternoon walking around the world showcase. Either way, I had plenty of room for dessert:

IMG_0649.jpg

A chocolate torte (yummy), cheesecake with raspberry (I discovered I love this combination), and a white chocolate something that was also yummy. Everything was nicely decorated for Christmas.

I left with a full tummy, and ready to see the fireworks at Magic Kingdom one more time.

And you know what? I left knowing this was my last TS meal and glad it was. I enjoyed it--it's on par with some of the best places at the beach, and priced similarly. In other words, I was pleased with my choice. It's on the list for June.

Overall:
Atmosphere: 4 out of 5--This definitely has a Beachy feel to it, but is really far away from bathrooms?
Service: 4 out of 5--Michael was pretty good, but I could tell he was not happy about having a 1-top.
Wait Time: 5 out of 5
Food Quality: 5 out of 5
Overall: 4.5 out of 5

So, for the last morning, I had planned a reservation at Kona Cafe, but I was ready to get home and on the road, seeing as how it was Christmas eve. Instead, I decided to visit Port Orleans-Riverside for breakfast at Riverside Mill.

In previous trips and multiple visits, I had never seen this sign:

IMG_0684.jpg

I had the biggest breakfast platter available--I knew I needed a big breakfast, as I did not know when I would feel like stopping for lunch.

IMG_0688.jpg

I also filled my refillable mugs (I needed to pick up a second one as a gift, but went ahead and used it so I'd have plenty of caffeine for the ride home), and got water and coffee.

It was nice to visit the resort I really consider home, and although I loved POFQ, it made me have a little bit of regret for not staying there.

Overall:
Atmosphere: 5 out of 5
Service: 4 out of 5.
Wait Time: 4 out of 5
Food Quality: 3 out of 5--it was okay, but a typical cs breakfast at Disney. Beignets would have been better.
Overall: 4 out of 5

This was a great trip, and I enjoyed the food while there. I discovered something about my touring style--I am a deluxe dining type of gal. I prefer having the option of either TS or CS, depending on the day, and will use it from here on. THe June trip for the entire family is with the DxDP.

That's such a shame re. the nachos, I was thinking about trying the Cantina but I really don't like the look of that cheese on those nachos.

However, one place I'm definitely going to try (for the first time) is the Flame Tree BBQ - oh my, that pulled pork sandwich looks sooooo good.

Cape May looks good too, wasn't sure about a buffet restaurant 'solo' but I think you might have convinced me ;)

I think between the nachos not being so fresh, the jalapenos, and the cheese, the Cantina was a bust.

FTBBQ is awesome!

And I think I prefered the Signature Dining TSs and buffets solo. The 1TS places that weren't buffet seemed to make me feel a little uncomfortable.

Was there any one restaurant in particular that you felt uncomfortable eating solo? Just wondering as it's my first solo trip so am grateful for any hints/tips :goodvibes

I was really uncomfortable at Grand Floridian Cafe. I was seated where everyone walked by and looked at me, and was even pointed out as a solo diner by my server.

She had my slip from the computer--she knew I was dining by myself.

 that is terrible! I was meant to be having lunch here after my MK tour but I might just have to reconsider, that is not good at all.

Thanks, this was a fun read.

Now I am hungry. ;)
