We will be staying a week in the Ft. Lauderdale area and would like to rent a home/villa .... not a condo. Would like to be within 2 miles of the beach.

Any good suggestions in that area of the coast?

thanks!

I live in Fort Lauderdale, about a mile from the beach. (My avatar picture is of Fort Lauderdale beach.) I've never looked at short-term rentals here, so I'm not sure what you'll find. My best guess is that most everything will be close to the beach.

An ideal location will depend on your travel party. Central Fort Lauderdale Beach (roughly Las Olas Blvd north to Sunrise Blvd) has lots of bars and restaurants. That would be good for adults, but not great for young kids. While it doesn't get crazy like Las Vegas, you'll see bars offering 2-for-1 drink specials. That can lead to some mild rowdiness.

Going slightly further up the coast, you'll find a little more sedate experience. It'll probably be less expensive, too. Rental listing might reference Oakland Park or Lauderdale by the Sea.
