best movies and videos to get familiar with characters?

We like the Sing-a-longs as well. Our kids had sseen several of the "classic" Disney movies, but these were much shorter and helped familiarize them with the characters they hadn't seen before, as well as allowing them to see their favorites!
We bought ours at Toys R Us.

Don't forget to watch Swiss Family Robinson. It's an oldie but a goodie. We watched it the day before we left and it was really neat to see the treehouse and recognize things from the movie.

Splash Mountain is based on "Song of the South" (1946). It is a wonderful movie but has not been released recently on DVD by Disney. You can get used copies from Amazon.com. The movie takes place in 1870.

Another vote for singa longs. Our fav is disney sing along fun. (it is disneyland though, but still features alot of the rides & characters) just warn kids characters don't usually ride the rides with you.

As far as "real movies" goes Winnie the pooh movies (as many of these characters are freely around)
