best month for 7 month booking of Grand Californian Villas

My May 2013 plans may have to change due to some family issues. We may need to be out in California and rather than not do any vacation days, I'm considering moving our entire trip out there (or I may just fly out and back alone for two days if this plan isn't viable).

It doesn't have to be May 2013. It's flexible (but no later than May), and I need to take two days to drive to Reedley. That's about four-ish hours from Disneyland.

So I'm wondering what the best month might be to get a 1-br room at 7 months for VGC? I'd rather do a warm month so my kid (then 5) and nephew (then 9) can swim with dads while my sis and I take care of this business.

Would you watch availability, book something, then keep moving it if more opens up? I'd have 200 available and would borrow anything over that. If we do a full week, that's about 245 for a 1-br. Is it difficult to move a reservation with borrowed points?

Thanks for any insight.

With DVC, moving a reservation is really a cancel and re-book, so it would all be subject to availability. Having something booked for specific dates won't give you any benefit when it comes to having to change dates.

If you know some dates that you might want to go, then I would book at the 7 month mark, and then if those dates, need to be altered, do the best you can.

The only drawback is the borrowed points--and, only then, if you end up not being able to book anything at all, as those points would be stuck.

I have not yet tried to book VGC so can't help you in which month would be better but it is a small resort and fills up fast.

Good luck!

As a VGC owner and lifelong resident of CA, I would recommend September. Crowds are lowest for the entire year and there might be some availability. We have some of the best weather of the year during that time.

Thanks, Dwelty. I think Sept 2013 may work for us. It's a little longer than we wanted to put this particular item of business off, but since it does require a lot of planning, it may do fine.
