Hi everyone! :wave2:

We are planning our second trip with our little guy for this coming December. We have never stayed at a moderate resort with him (we normally stay at the Contemporary or Beach Club), but we are buying a house this year and my husband is insisting if I want a Disney vacation this year I have to find a way to cut the price.

We did stay at CSR 4 years ago and found it lovely, but I'm not sure it's the right place for an 18 month old. What's really important to me is location (i.e not lugging at stroller on and off buses everywhere) and quality of rooms. We do like a nice pool but I think in December we probably won't be using it very often.

Do you guys have any suggestions for top Moderate resort with an 18 month old? Should I go with CSR or should i shorten the trip and go for the Deluxe?

Thanks!!

Good Luck wit finding a moderate that you don't have to use the buses for everything. Other than going to DD at POR POFQ, you will have to use a bus for all the theme parks.

Before we bought into DVC we would stay at POFQ because the resort is small and the buses were not over crowded and that made it easy to manage a stroller. I would highly recommend POFQ and request a room near the bus stop.

Have you thought about renting DVC points or staying at the WL?

Skip the trip, wait a bit and go Deluxe Monorail.

First I want to say your wedding picture is beautiful!

As far as best moderate, honestly I really love CSR. For us, I wouldn't have made a decision on what our toddler's liked but what we would like. I'm a huge CSR fan and at 18 months, there isn't much there for them to enjoy but IMO, that's simply because of the age.

One thing we did with our 10 month old was a character breakfast. To this day when we took our son, it is one of my favorite memories.

You're going to find advice all across the board on this. Look at what theming you like best. If you rely on bus transportation, remember buses can be anywhere from great to downright lousy at ANY resort. I never let bus system make or break a decision for us.

Truth is, it's Disney, you'll be happy anywhere. :)

I also suggest renting points to stay in a deluxe studio/villa. We are paying the same amount as we would have paid to stay at a moderate for the BCV this January.

If you do end up at a moderate, though, I would also suggest POFQ. It is the least spread out of the mods.

I'd rent points for WL personally. Less points and decorated for the holidays plus you have the boat to MK

Not sure at this late date that renting points would even be possible for the Christmas/New years week. :confused3

And I wouldn't pick a resort just for an 18 month old. HE'LL be just as happy at any of them.

No moderate will help you avoid lugging a stroller on or off a bus. If you stay at a mod, you will need the buses to get to the parks, unless you rent a car. Then you'd be hauling your stroller in and out of the car. And unless you are staying at a monorail resort and only going to MK, at some point even in a deluxe resort, you'll need to use the bus.

Pick the resort that fits your budget and has the theme you like best. You already know CSR. POR is very nice. POFQ is compact. CBR (although it only has double beds) is actually our favourite mod because of its lush and colourful theming.

For easy transport with a stroller, I don't think you can beat the Swan or Dolphin. They're less $$ than a deluxe, and you can walk to Epcot or DHS, or take the boats (child stays in the stroller). From Epcot, you can take the monorail, switch at TTC and take the MK monorail, so no taking child out of stroller (if that works for you that day). Or just bus to MK and DAK. You can get a room with a king bed then a crib (don't know if they provide them or you can rent one). Just my two cents!

It sounds like you are wanting convenience with the stroller+cost effective+nice pool. I'd go for POFQ for convenience+low cost. If you find the pool pictures acceptable, then great! (i personally don't care for the POFQ pool) If you can afford a little more $ at a moderate, you can do preferred at any of the resorts for convenient location.

+1 if you can get it. Probably a longshot for this December.

I also like the S/D suggestion by a PP if you cannot get a deluxe DVC. We visited both during the holidays and the decorations were great! I would pick the S/D over a mod any day due to its prime location. :thumbsup2

Honestly, your 18 month isn't going to care what resort he stays at, so I would pick where based on what YOU want out of a resort. All the moderates are going to require you to use a bus at some point, if not all the time. I haven't found using a stroller to be too troublesome on the buses unless it is particularly busy and the bus is full.

We stayed at the POFQ with our 20 month old...it was perfect. Requested a ground floor because I didn't want to haul a stroller on stairs/elevator. We ended up staying in building 5 and it was perfect. It's a smaller resort so there won't be much walking involved. Our kids loved it. There is a boat ride you can take from POFQ/POR to Downtown Disney. The kids loved that too.

CBR and request a ground floor room so you don't have to lug stroller and luggages up the stairs. CBR is fun, nice pool and food court. Our DD loved it at that age.

the answer is....wherever you and your dh are happy, that's a good place for an 18 month old. :thumbsup2 just about any hotel onsite will be great...I've done lots with all ages of kids, and always had fun!

Our first trip to CSR was when our oldest was 15 months old, and we also stayed there when our youngest was 18 months old. We put the pack-n-play in the vanity area in the closet area and closed the privacy curtain and it made it dark enough for a toddler to sleep. Now with the addition of the sliding wooden doors at CSR, it would really be perfect for giving your toddler a nice dark spot to fall asleep. And unlike the privacy curtains they used to have and all the other resorts now have, the doors couldn't be played with by the toddler! I would definitely stay at CSR!

We took our 8 month old this past December and stayed at CSR. We loved it. We were close to a bus stop and the pool was amazing! We are going again this December and our Son will be 21 months and we are staying CBR. We are a moderate family so we are used to lugging the stroller and bags. :)

We stayed in CSR in June with my 2.5 year olds. If you were going during a month more compatible with swimming I would say to change another resort as I found the pool to be better for older children. Since most likely you won't have pool weather, CSR is fine if that's where you want to stay.
