Best Lunch Suggestions

We will be coming in May 2010 (all adults) and would like to break up our day (and our wallets) by eating a larger meal at lunch. We have looked into the Dining Plan -- but we're worried that even the simplest plan would be too much food for us -- and we would force ourselves to make use of all of our credits. We will be there for 9 days, and will have a hopper pass. We will be staying at POFQ.

Thank you for any suggestions, and I have already learned sooo much from reading DISboards!!

As far as a larger meal at lunch, you could always try one of the buffets. Biergarten in Germany at Epcot is wonderful. We had dinner there last year and the food is delicious, and it would certainly be your larger meal of the day! You sit at tables of 8, so if your party consists of fewer than 8 people (or more than 8 people in which case you would sit at 2 tables), you will be sitting with people you do not know. DH and I love this, so it did not bother us at all but everyone is different.

People say good things about the Tusker House buffet at AK, and I believe they serve lunch too.

Crystal Palace at MK is a character buffet, but many adult-only groups enjoy going there. The food was certainly delicious last year at dinner, and I hear rave reviews as well for lunch. The characters are Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Eeyore and Piglet. If the adults in your party like children, it is very cute when the characters have the napkin parade around the restaurant with some of the children dining there. Very cute to watch!

I hear very good things about 50s Prime Time at DHS, and it is inexpensive. We are considering this for a lunch as well on our July trip.

Whispering Canyon Cafe at Wilderness Lodge is supposed to be very fun, and they have an all-you-can-eat skillet option as well as an a la carte menu.

Any of the other restaurants in Epcot's World Showcase are good options too. Maybe the only one I would not recommend so much is the one in Norway, which is supposed to be good, but it is a princess meal and is more expensive than other character lunches, although I believe it also includes a photo package in the price.

For counter service, Cosmic Ray's at MK is very good, and they have larger meal options like chicken and ribs (I think it costs around $14). Tangierine Cafe in Morocco at Epcot is also excellent, we had lunch there. They have a really great shawarma platter with different side dishes, also about $14 I think. These CS places also have smaller options, such as a falafel at Tangierine Cafe or a burger or a sandwich at Cosmic Ray's. So even if some of you are not too hungry to eat a large meal you could find a smaller one at these locations.

We have done lunch at Sci Fi, 50's Prime Time, Tutto Italia, Chefs de France, Tonys Town Tavern, Le Cellier and San Angel Inn...they were all excellent and very filling.

Some of the places where we've had lunch in the past:

Sci-Fi - one of my favorites! Nice break in the middle of the day and love the ambience! Stick with the burgers and the fries and you'll be very happy! YUMMY shakes too!

Coral Reef - we hated it, but I hear that the reviews are getting better lately. Plus it's cheaper for lunch. If you want to have a good view of the tank request a table closer to it, we didn't and couldn't see much.

CRT - My favorite place so far for lunch! My food was delicious and it's cheaper then dinner. We loved the experienced and I hear of a lot of adults who go without children and still really enjoy it.

Thank you for your quick replies -- I've added all of them to our lists to check out.

We also wanted to do a fireworks cruise, but it seems as though you need to rent to whole boat -- there will only be 3 (or 5 -- some haven't definitely decided yet) of us. I'm not sure if we would feel out of place at the "Pirates" cruise without any little ones.

We will probably do the Fantasmic Dinner Package, also.

Can you tell I'm getting excited?????

On the fireworks cruise, yes, you have to rent an entire boat (seats 10) but there are shares on here. You can rent the boat and post on here to share the cost with others or you can read through and see if anyone else has room on a share for one of the nights you are there. You'll find that over on the Theme Parks board. We've done both cruises and we feel the Illuminations cruise is an amazing experience.

We are all adults and our favorite lunch places (TS) are Tusker House (AK), Chefs de France (Epcot) and 50's PTC (DHS). We've eaten at all of the TS at MK and are not thrilled with any of them. Epcot has the best options and there are many options there that are large meals. You may also want to check out Wolfgang Pucks Cafe in DTD, none of us could finish our lunch portions there either.

Sanaa (at Animal Kingdom Villas) had an excellent lunch. It's out of the way of the theme parks, so seating might not be a problem.
