Good Morning all,

We are taking our first vacation to Disney 2-27-05 to 3-5-05. We are staying at the POR. I am very excited, but because I have read wonderful things about this resort. BUT I am worried because it is so big. Will we get put in a bad location?
Does anyone have a recommendation as to a request for location that I might ask for? I know that I want a non-smoking room but after that I am clueless. Thanks for your help.

The two times we have stayed at POR we have been in Building 14 on the Bayou section - a great location. Close to the food court and the main bus deepo :)

The last time I stayed @ POR we were in the Mansions @ Partierre Place. Looking from the river, our room was in the left wing with a river view. I have to say this room was awesome. It was awesome waking up every morning going outside to see the river and the whole marina. It was a really short walk to the marina and food court. Any of the rooms in the Mansion are great, just make sure you are on the river side of the building.

thanks
Ronnie

I really like Panterre Place (stayed there in Oct). It's quiet and there's a quiet pool right there. The bridge is right there that takes you to the lobby. Mousekeeping was great there. It's not that close to the main pool so you have to decide if that's important to you. I called 4 days before to request that section and we got it.

You need to first decide if you want the mansions or the swamp section. Neither is better than the other - it's just what you prefer.

Enjoy your trip!

BF and I were in Bldg 18 in Alligator Bayou. To be honest I think that it was a "smoking" building but I never would have known. I'm sensitive to the smell of smoke and I didn't smell a thing. The only reason I assume it was a smoking building was because there's an ashtray in one of my pictures!

The location of the building was great. It was close to the main building and a short walk to the main bus stop. We loved it...I wanna go back NOW!

We were also in bldg 18 and I agree....I think it is a smoking bldg ? We had two rooms on ground level and neither one smelled like even a hint of smoke. We booked a "standard" room with Disney and specifically requested either 14, 18 or 27. We got 18. There are several bldgs that if you book a "standard" view you could very well get a parking lot view from your front door & you're also not too far from the food court. In the bldgs I mentioned there's no way to get a parking lot view. We even had a glimpse of the Sasagoula River for a standard view price. Here's a map of the resort so you can see the bldg locations : http://www.disneyzone.net/ResortMaps/Dixiemapnew.jpg

We stayed in the Magnolia Bend section (mansions) in Arcadian house which is a nonsmoking building. Our room overlooked a quiet pool and we were only about a 3 minute walk over the bridge to the restaurant, lobby, main bus stop, etc. I don't feel there is any "bad" location on this property. Yes, it is spread out but everything felt convenient. There are also three other bus stops on the property. Also, the boat over to DTD. Have fun and enjoy your first trip :D
