Help - Need to Book! :surfweb: Anyone know of a great hotel/resort to stay in that is somewhat close by the Florida Citrus Bowl stadium? We will be going out next year in March for the Wrestlemania 24 being held here. When in Orlando I always stay at the WDW resorts but afraid they are just too far this time. Maybe I should stay near univ studios this time - is that near stadium? Thanks for any and all replies! :coffee:

The Citrus Bowl is smack in the worst part of Orlando. There are NO hotels that are within walking distance. Well, OK, maybe you could realistically walk to them, but you'd be putting your life at risk doing so. I'm serious, if you've heard about the area that the FBI hsa sent a task force to Orlando to work with correcting the crime problem, well, that's ground zero for it.

The closest hotels that don't rent rooms by the hour or to social services are downtown, the Marriott, the Grand Bohemian, and the Embassy Suites.

You'll pay dearly for parking--or staying--at any of them. If you're flying in you might as well just stay out near the airport someplace, it will be closer than the I-Drive/Universal/WDW area and less traffic. The parking at the hotel will be free, and you're going to have to pay to park at the Citrus Bowl no matter where you stay.

It's a few blocks away, but really just a 10 minute car ride, but I've stayed at the Marriott Courtyard near Colonial and Magnolia a number of times for business. It's nice and affordable. There are a lot of dining options eastbound on Colonial Dr.

But you don't want to go too far eastbound on Colonial or it gets sketchy.

Stay somewhere on International Drive it's like 8-10 miles from the Citrus Bowl.Last time I went near the Citrus Bowl was for a baseball tournament I played at in Tinker Field, next to the Citrus Bowl, now this was maybe 7-8 years ago and the area definitely didn't look good but I didn't feel very insecure.Has it gotten worse in the last couple of years?

It has gotten worse. I'm very fortunate that through my job I can get parking right in one of the lots at the Citrus Bowl/Tinker Field. I take my older car when I go downtown these days.
