Now that I'm on a tighter budget, we're wondering if it would affordable to buy certain baby items in FL. We didn't want to lug the diapers, formula, etc. We had planned on renting a car (may be rethinking that) and go grocery shopping.

What stores are nearby?
Which has the best prices?
Do they take coupons?

These items are what we would need to buy. Have any of you bought these items and remember the prices. Would like to price compare to see if it would be worth. If not, I guess I would have to pack all these items.

Pampers Diapers
Baby Wipes
Simalac Advance w/ Iron Ready Use Formula
Isomil Advance w/Iron Ready Use Formula
Simalac Advance w/ Iron Powder
Isomil Advance w/Iron Powder
Gerber Stage 1 Vegetable Baby Food
Gerber Stage 1 Fruit Baby Food
Gerber Stage 2 Vegetable Baby Food
Gerber Stage 2 Fruit Baby Food
Gerber Stage 2 meat Baby Food
Gerber Oatmeal Cereal

Any other baby items you think I may need?

I cannot tell you prices of the items on your list, but if you go to Publix, they will not over charge you. Publix is a very large food chain here in FL and they have set prices, they don't up them due to being in a tourist area. I shop at Publix while I am up there as well as home. There are several around WDW. Where will you be staying????

I agree with Sharon about Publix. They just opened up recently in Georgia and it's now my favorite supermarket.

There prices are very competitive, especially compared to New York prices, I see that's where you're from!

Just don't bother with Goodings... you'd need to mortgage your home to shop there!

I like WalMart and WinnDixie. I find them both to be a bit less expensive than Publix and WAY lower than Goodings (which should be renamed Gougings)

You might consider shipping a box of these things ahead. You can shop in your own home where you know you can get bargains, and pick up the items as they go on sale. Then box them up and ship them ahead to your resort (I used UPS last year and will use FedEx this year). If you go to UPS and FedEx websites, you can get prices. If you put in different box dimensions and weights, you'll get a feel for what it will cost (but you can send a good sized 30-50lb box for not a whole lot of $$. And your box will be waiting for you at check in. We did grocery shop, but only for perishables. We rented a (Dollar) car from MCO and drove to the resort, then went to grocery and then dropped car at Dollar's rental counter at the Courtyard by Marriott by Downtown Disney (took Disney transportation from DD back to resort)...they don't charge a drop off fee, so you are just paying for the one day.

Hi, I live on Long Island! I found the Walmart to be roughly the same or better than at home! They have the usual Walmart side and then the other side is a full grocery store. The only thing they didn't have were great cold cuts (like Boars Head) that we are used to. I have always traveled with my kids even when they were infants. The first couple of trips I dragged everything with me. Then, I realized that FL has the same stuff and the trip was SO much easier! Good Luck!

Publix carries the Boar's Head meats in the deli. We have one here, now, too! I love Publix but Walmart would probably be cheaper for baby stuff. We usually hit both stores.

Where is the nearest Wal Mart to Disney? That's where I was hoping to be able to shop. Around here, many of our Wal Marts do not have the grocery section.

Wal-Mart Supercenter Store #1220
2500 SO. Kirkman RD
Orlando, FL 32811

Wal-Mart Supercenter Store #2881
1471 East Osceola Parkway
Kissimmee, FL 34744

If you go to www.walmart.com then there`s a store finder and it brings up a map so you can see exactly were the stores are.

We went to publix first on our trip in february and weren`t impressed. So,the next morning we headed out to the super walmart on osceola and found the prices to be much better.

Hi,

First time posting here... I'm an avid lurker from northern florida.

I have done price books before for grocery chains in Florida.

Publix is a little more expensive than Winn-Dixie. However, Winn-Dixie (at least in Jacksonville, FL) requires a card to get savings, and Publix does not. That may be a consideration for you when traveling from out-of-state.

Thought I'd pass that info along to you :)

Yes, Winn Dixie requires that card for the lower prices. As far as Walmart, it may be a few cents cheaper, but not by much. When you factor in your time sitting in traffic & gas to & from Walmart.... you may as well just do Publix..no offense to Walmart, but I find Publix to be a cleaner store too:D

We just recently returned and went to Winn Dixie. I was so mad at what I found them to be charging after hearing it was a great place to go. It is only semi decent IF you have their special discount card.

I bought just what we needed for the next morning and then made another trip the next day. I decided it was worth it to make two trips and take away from my time and go to Publix.

Publis has great prices and great produce.

Honestly I would have rather paid the prices at Goodings then the prices at Winn Dixie!

Never again will I go out of my way for Winn Dixie.

All you need to do to get the Winn Dixie card is to ask for it at Customer Service. Fill out a short form and they give you the full sized card and two key ring cards. Simple. Even so, I still found them higher than what I pay on NW Louisiana.
