First I have to thank all those who pass along their tips and experiences. :disrocks:

We planned our trip for a long time and the things I picked up here wnet a long way to making it a great trip. We got 5 day PH for the week following Labor Day.

3rd best freebie: Continental breakfast at the Candy Cane Inn. Everyone started off with fruit, muffins, bagels and kept hunger at bay til lunch.

2nd best freebie: free ice water at restaurants. Made it easier to keep our boys (7 & 9) and ourselves off pop until dinner.

By far the best freebie for our boys was being in the wheelhouse of the Mark Twain riverboat. I knew nothing about this until I read about it here. We got on board when there was a small crowd and made our way to the upper deck. From there we saw the captain and asked her if we could come up. She unlocked a door marked "Private" that we would never have dreamed was accessible to us and let each boy blow the steam whistle and ring the bell and then helped them use the wheel to steer around the island. When we returned to dock each boy received a pilots certificate to take home. It made a big impression on them and was definitely a highlight.

I am writing this down as I type. I am hoping to do a dl trip next year and can use all the pointers I can. Made many trips to dw but never to dl. Thanks for the pointers.

My best Freebie has to be the power walk at DCA if you are staying in the Disney Grand Ca Hotel. This had to be the highlight of my trip.

Pointers are fun, because with little things like that when you dont tell the people you are going with, it makes those things a nice little surprise for them, and it makes yours and their trip extra special to see the joys of that experience.

The free ice water has to be one of my favorites! We carry those little sticks of Crystal light powder, and have free drinks all day. 7-11 also has their own brand of those drink powders, and the kids LOVE the bubble gum flavor. I figure we save a good 10-20.00 on drinks for a weekend doing it this way!

That is so typical of how some Disney go out of their way to let kids have a great time. She is definitely a child lover and enjoys helping them have fun. Hat off the her and Disney.

As I am typing this, I'm thinking, this is a stupid question.
Anyway, what is "the power walk at DCA"?

another great freebie is the birthday sticker at main st in the city hall free to anyone celebrating a birthday and you get a phone call...usually Goofy to wish you a happy birthday! no proof of birthday required and you will see people of all ages celebrating. If you stay on site you get a birthday button. Also another is the cookie making on main street for the kids, I have never went but have seen little ones with thier hats, and I heard it is great....maybe someone else can give more details for that one.

I've never had problems at bag check with bringing in cans of soda. Waters good but every now and then a soda hits the spot, you can get a cup of ice just about anywhere at either park, just pour in the soda and you're all set. Really helps you save money too since park soda is about $3.00.
