Best DVC AP price

Is it still a legitimate strategy to purchase the biggest discounted ticket valued less than a DVC AP, use it once, then upgrade it to the AP? Or have things changed? It's been a few years since I've done that.
If so, are the biggest discount tickets still through the mousesavers email links?

2. Nope.
3. That can vary, but not by enough to really make much difference.

When we bought we used AAA (didn't want to wait a couple weeks for it to come in mail for UT ticket) but I think UT was a little cheaper. Just make sure to use ticket first to "lock in" price.
When you upgrade make sure they know to bridge the price (or bring your ticket price up to current gate price)-some people report issues with some cast members not doing it right
