Hi. DH and I will be going in August to celebrate his 36th birthday, and I am looking for any suggestions for good birthday dinners for adults - places that I could arrange a cake or something special at? Thanks!

I've never done it, but I think you can arrange for a cake at just about any restaurant. We are heading down in August over my birthday and I booked Narccoossee's for my birthday dinner :goodvibes. We've never eaten there, but have always wanted to try it. It will be me, DH, and our two DSs and I thought a signature restaurant would be a nice birthday celebration :). A few other suggestions would be Artist Point at the WL or Yachtman Steakhouse at the YC ;).

I celebrated my 40th Birthday at the Cali Grill. I loved it!!!! We had a seating that was in time for the sunset and the fireworks! I would highly recommend celebrating a birthday at Cali Grill!!!:cloud9:

Is he a foodie or does he like fun places with theming?

If he is a foodie, I would either choose Victoria & Alberts or the California Grill (during Wishes fireworks or at sunset:lovestruc)

If he likes fun places with theming, I would choose either the Hoop De Doo Revue (dinner show), Whispering Canyons Cafe, or 50's Prime Time Cafe.

You can order a cake in advance at almost every restaurant, as far as I know. Mention this when you call to book the ADR and the CM should be able to assist you and guide you to the right person. :)

As a guy who celebrated a birthday at WDW not too long ago, I can honestly say that a quality meal and a nice drink with good company are more important to me than whether or not I get a surprise cake.

If that's something you want to do, that's cool, and I'm sure most, if not all, Disney restaurants will be accommodating to such requests (at least so long as the cake comes from somewhere on-site), but first and foremost, you should make sure the place you choose for that birthday meal is someplace he will really enjoy.

California Grill gets my vote :thumbsup2
I think the food is great, and such a great place for the fireworks! And I heard the chef at the contemporary is amazing!! You can definately get a cake easily there :)

Nothing compares to V&A. My second choices would be one of the nicer restaurants at the Swan/Dolphin resorts. For adult only meals, they offer a better atmosphere with superior food.

Only time open for the night I wanted for a 40th b-day celebration is 5:45pm. How long will it take to eat and don't you think by the Fireworks time they will have booted us outta' there? I am looking now for an Oct. fireworks schedule so I can see the fw time. We really wanted to see the fireworks....is there a place at the Contemporary if we hang around that we could view them?

Part 2: Is Cail Grill a good place for a celebration?? Any other suggestions? :yay:

I'm fairly certain that they will allow you to return to the restaurant to view the fireworks if you ate there earlier in the evening.

California Grill is our favorite - we'll be celebrating my birthday there this Saturday night. If you mention the celebration when you make the reservation, they will often decorate your table with "Mickey sprinkles" before you are seated.

You can also view the fireworks on a balcony off of the 4th floor - the view is pretty decent.

...but we also really enjoy Artist's Point over at Wilderness Lodge.

You can make an evening of it - eat at AP, then board the boat and head over to the Contemporary and pick up the monorail. We really enjoy going down to to the beach at the Poly and watching the fireworks from there - they pipe the music in.

It makes for a really fun evening.
