Hi. I was wondering what the best days (cheapest, least crowded) for Amtrak travel are. I'll be traveling with my boyfriend and 2 young nieces. I have never traveled this far on a train, but I won't be flying until the TSA makes some changes. The scanners are not my issue (although I'm not that happy with them). My problem is 90% of the time I fly with my boyfriend we get pulled out for extra screening. He is dark skinned and his grandparents are from India so I'm sure they're doing a bit of profiling. Most of the time they give him a pat down, but I've also been selected three times (and they only select me when I fly with him). I DO NOT want to chance my nieces getting selected for this new "enhanced" pat down. :sad2:

Children age 12 and under will now undergo a "modified" pat down. And who knows what the rules will be nearly a year from now?

As for prices, you could simply do some dummy bookings on amtrak.com for various days to see what days of the week are cheaper than others. That's what most people do to find the lowest prices.
