Best CS at DHS? Opinions, please...

We are heading to DW in May and on one of our days we are doing CS for lunch at DHS. We really haven't eaten CS there before and would love opinions.

Thanks :)

For the best variety there is a sort of open-air food court on the street leading to ToT & RnRC. There are several CS places there and they share an eating area. Downside is that only some of the seating is under cover. The noonday sun in May can be brutal.

This trip, though, we are going to try Starring Rolls. They have some cold sandwiches that get high marks here on the DisBoards, but the key attraction is that this place is primarily a bakery and for your CS credit you get to pick any one of the goodies for dessert - not just the typical Disney chocolate-cake-in-a-cup. From the size of the cupcakes in the pictures, you could lunch on them alone and never mind the sandwiches.

no idea why Disney does not address the CS issue in DHS.

When we eat there it's usually at Backlot Express. Studio Catering is pretty good but the menu is limited.

Starring Rolls.

I recall that the sandwich selection is limited to a turkey one and a ham one, but both sandwiches were fresh and big (they definitely feed more than one, unless you are feeding teenage boys).

And the desserts are yummy - if you're on the dining plan, get a sandwich and a huge dessert - either share the dessert, or take it as a snack for later on.

I have also read that they have sushi now - based on reviews, it's not the best sushi, but at least as good as most grocery store sushi - could be a fresh alternative after days of fast food.

I would say either Starring Rolls are Toy Storry Pizza Planet, we enjoy the pizza there and the cupcakes at SR are to die for!

I'm another on for Starring Rolls!!

We went in 2009 and loved their sandwiches. They were fresh and very, very good. They are large too! The desserts are over the top! My DD had a cupcake that was a big as two mans fists put together. I had a brownie with fudge icing, chocolate shavings and m&m's...OMG! We easily could have split a sandwich and dessert without a problem!

Starring Rolls for sure!! We found this little gem on our recent trip. The sandwiches are great and huge!! Definitely can split them for normal eaters. And if on the dining plan you can get a big cupcake as your dessert. They too are huge!!
Here is a picture of our meal (the potato chips aren't in it)

Wow! Those sandwiches and cupcakes do look good!

Thanks for all of the suggestions...they are all great!

We eat at the Toy Story Pizza Planet everytime we go! I don't know what they do with their pizza, but its really fresh and soft, and delicious. So yummy!

Another vote for Starring Rolls. Though there's only a limited selection, the sandwiches are huge, very fresh tasting, and a nice reprieve from the standard nuggets/burger CS meal. The sandwiches were truly refreshing & very filling. The desserts are wonderful too. Delicious change of pace from the standard dessert that comes along w/ the CS meals. We've also eaten at Backlot Express. It's good--not bad, not great. Much prefer Starring Rolls.

That sandwich has an awful meat to bread to cheese to sauce ratio. It's just way too much meat. Very little sauce, to the point where you almost can't taste it. You can't taste the cheese either and I have found the bread to not be particularly moist. It's a terribly conceived sandwich.

sorry to hijack this thread but i have just one question, pretty please:lovestruc

I have been watching the pictures of the Starring Rolls sandwiches on the disboards and they look amazing. But....I am a meat and bread only kinda girl. Are the sandwiches pre-made with all the fixins or can I order just meat and bread??

Thank you for letting me butt in....I will leave now:rotfl:

my opinion too. I was picking out quite a fair bit of meat. I guess it depends - if u like a lot of meat, this is for you. I like more sauce and there was barely any. I found Main St bakery to have a similar sandwich and I didn't like that either. on the other hand, their desserts are amazing so it ended up being worth my CS credit LOL!

and yes, it's pre-made with all the fixings.

I ended up getting a sandwich and dessert for myself and bringing it over to Pizza Planet so the kids and hubby could have pizza. The pizza was OK.

Starring Rolls- Turkey Foccacia Sand. with chips and a fruit tart for dessert... some rave about the cupcakes, but I have not had one yet...will try this Xmas!

Fairfax Fare- great Fairfax Salad...has chili and tortillia strips and great dressing! Pretty big, too! DH got a great BBQ platter here, as well. Kids had hotdogs and pizza from nearby.

Studio Catering- the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich was actually good and big, good fries- but I think I actually got the apple slices that time--needed some fruit by that point in the trip! lol DH had the same chicken sand. with the fries...we both got the Marble Cheesecake and it was really good!

Backlot- had the Turkey and arugula/red pepper sand. on eyear and it was pretty good and filling. A bit soggy, maybe. Kids got hotdogs and to their surprise they were the huge 1/4 lb. ones...DH ended up eating those and they ate grapes and fries :(

The truth to this question is there is no such thing. DHS when it comes to a good cs is an absolute joke.... I agree with a pp about the poor choices in this park, come on already WDW...

If you are forced to eat at this park then the only place I can even recommend would be Starring Rolls. They are decent, however with that the choices are very, very, limited. You have a choice of a turkey sandwich, a ham sandwich, or a veggie pita; that is it. A real positive though is the baked items are very good.

One word of caution I would recommend; avoid eating at the ABC Commissary no matter what. Sure there are a few who will come on here and say they enjoy the place, but if you research it you will find it is the most disliked restaurant in all of WDW. This is not just the opinion of the DIS, but many other sites as well. I chose to ignore the warnings not once, but twice.... I guess I'm a slow learner, but it will never happen again.

They are pre-made but I'm pretty sure it's all dry ingredients (I can't remember...) so you could pick off what you don't want.

To OP- I also say Starring Rolls- my sandwich was excellent and the dessert was even better. We ate at Backlot Express one day on the last trip too  So thankful the DIS members told me about SR!

We love Starring rolls also, but a trip would not be complete without the great hot italian sandwich from Catalina Eddies, and the combo plate at Fairfaxe Fare. Think DHS gets a bad rap because WS @ Epcot has SO many choices, but we have found these three and are good to go!
